Accurate delivery estimate from Guitar Center?)

Hi folks,

I ordered a Music Man Steve Morse Signature guitar with Floyd Rose (the "old" non Y2D one) from Guitar Center in Dallas in early March. They told me it has to be built and should be coming late april, early may. I was just wondering if anyone on here can confirm that this is a somewhat accurate estimate or not.

Not sure if people are on here who are actually involved with the manufacturing etc that could know this, apologies if not and this is a strange question.

In any case I am really looking forward to getting it! :)

BP knows best late April, early May seems quite too soon, June sometime would be more realistic.

By the way welcome aboard and nice to have some more North Texas formites on the fourm.

Which GC in Dallas did you order it from? I mainly use the North Dallas store.

Congrats on your Morse:)

Hi Tomcat!

We have a special order from that store that looks like it's yours. Early to mid June is when your guitar is scheduled to be shipped out.

Welcome to the forum!

I doubt anyone has ever complained, what with service like this.

And indeed, awesome to get this kind of response. Was hoping for it and did not disappoint :)

So is it also allowed on this forum to ask about suggestions for an Amp + other sound altering substances? ;)

If so, my scenario is as follows:

Music that I like (to play): Rush, Porcupine Tree, Alter Bridge, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Hendrix, obviously Steve Morse!! But that is very difficult but I will try hah, Van Halen, AC/DC, The Who, Pink Floyd etc.

I live in a dorm, so I cannot crank the volume mega high so i need an amp that will still give me a good sound even on low volume. Basicly I will want a good clena tone and some nice more rocking / solo tones with distortion etc.

What I've been thinking about is getting a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tube amp, and combining that with maybe a Boss DS-1 for distortion. Additionally I am thinking to get some kind of effects processor with an expression pedal for extra sounds, maybe like a Digitech RP500? Not sure if that is a good idea or not. Also not sure if I should go for a Wah that is implemented in an effects processor like that or a seperate wah and then which one (Dunlop crybaby?)

So opinions on that option ^ recommended as well as other suggestions obviously. My budget for this would be 1500 bucks max if possible.

Some more background: I used to play alot when I was younger but stopped for a few years due to various reasons, one of them being I was never quite happy with the sound I had (Dutch Galama guitar with an old Mesa and a Korg processor). Now I am looking to get back into playing again and am excited. Should I not like playing after a while the Morse will go to my father back home in the Netherlands. If I do like it it will still go to him and I will get another one perhaps (or maybe a Y2D) :)

Long story short:

Advice needed :)

hey,

well since you bought this at the central dallas gc and live in a dorm going to assume you are going to school at SMU, again welcome.

A hot rod deluxe is a 40 watt amp, would probably be a little loud to get good tones, maybe think about a blues jr. or the egnater rebel 20, goes from 1 to 20 watts and takes pedals well, cant go wrong with a digitech for the money.

With that much variety and the requirement of sounding good at low volumes I'd seriously consider Line 6 or something similar, unless you're religiously opposed to the digital stuff ;)

My dad has got a Hot Rod, it's a good amp, but not exactly designed for quiet playing. And will take a bit of persuasion (as in additional devices) to get it to do a decent Metallica or similar tone.

I'd opt for the orange tiny terror head with a one or two twelve cab. As for distortion I would avoid the ds1 at all costs and opt for anyone of the way huge pedals, check them out at guitar center, they have all three that were rereleased. Or check out the zvex or diamond pedals. The egnator's a good choice too. Marshall also he a small head coming out called the haze. The rp500 isn't bad but I'm not too keen on effects processors.

The Orange Tiny Terror doesn't have an FX loop does it?

Otherwise I'd suggest for digital effects anything from T.C. Electronics. The G Major and G Major II are absolutely outstanding. I use the G-Major and the modulation effects are absolutely outstanding and don't color my tone. That and the new Nova system is out too, which is a stomp box style effects processor.

yeah, for dorm living I'd absolutely go with a modeler. Peavey's new Vyper series is very nice.

I'm not sure on the effects loop. The egnator has an effects loop, but no level on the effects which isn't that big of a deal. The tcs are good too, I just prefer analog as a personal preference. I personally run my fireburst distortion into a vintage small stone and a malekko e600 light. I plan on trading the small stone out for a toadworks phantasm eventually and I have my eye on a way huge red llama. But my head has no drive channel so I have to use diferrent pedals for different drives...

Don't bother with the HRD, it wont get you anywhere near or in between Rush or Metallica, plus its super loud. I never could get a great heavy sound from it even with a bunch of pedals, great for blues though.

For a dorm I'd look for something low wattage with built in effects. You can't get a decent Rush sound without chorus and delay.

Good luck.

Funny!

UPS can't make up its mind about slogans. On commercials its still WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU. on their trucks something different.

My feeling is they should change their slogan to...
KEEPING BUSINESS IN BUSINESS

Well lot of good feedback here guys, which is what I was hoping for. Guess I gotta go think it all over again, lol!

Prevailing opinion seems to be to get a Solid State amp then, not a tube, with built in stuff I guess? As far as that goes, I am always afraid with that that I will be stuck with, like, "canned" sounds that are in there, rather then having a basic good sound that I can alter. Is that an unfounded fear?

Thanks again for all your tips!
Also, fingbeagles, sorry to disappoint you, but I am actually living in a dorm on Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. I'm a Dutch guy doing fighter pilot training (which is another odd thing, in what is probably destined to be one of the busiest years of my life, I decide to pick up guitar playing again... lol)
