Try to remove the battery and see if you still get sound from the bass. It works on the StingRay 4. The output is very very low. If it works, you can at least check whether that's the tone you're looking for before butchering the electronics...

I'll try that first, I just want it for a backup if battery fail.

I checked the charge on my batteries last night... after 6 months (December 22nd, 2008), with roughly 2-4 hours of play daily, my Stingray's battery is only down to 70%-ish.
