Another way to attack that (which I haven't done yet) is to get one of those Fishman Blenders. It's got a mic pre and DI built in to one box. The engineer gets his one line, and you get the best of both worlds. I insist on using both mic and DI.
What mic are you using? I usually use the Audix D4, and prefer the Countryman Type 85 DI, though I don't own one yet.
