Another way to attack that (which I haven't done yet) is to get one of those Fishman Blenders. It's got a mic pre and DI built in to one box. The engineer gets his one line, and you get the best of both worlds. I insist on using both mic and DI.

What mic are you using? I usually use the Audix D4, and prefer the Countryman Type 85 DI, though I don't own one yet.

i recently got the shure pg52-xlr dynamic with xlr cable...

its basically a kick drum mic, that can be used for both.

i want to try the new svt di, and also if i ever use my sans amp again, i'll use that.

i think its a vocal mic.

My experience is it works really well for an instrument mic. I am willing to listen to other's thoughts on the subject.

Guess we have further hijacked the thread here too.

What is wrong with an SM 57 for the bass?

There's really no response below about 55Hz, and a mean presence peak. Also, odds are if that's what the guy wants to put on your bass amp, chances are he'll have a 58 on vocals (not that there's anything wrong with that), and that presence peak from the bass amp will compete with the identical presence peak of the vocal mic.
