Hello, everybody!

Has anyone tried to move pole pieces on Cutlass single pickups, and how? High E string on neck pickup has significantly weaker output. With adjusting pickup angle i got some improvement, but i'm not quite satisfied.

With any single coil pickup if you try to move the pole pieces you risk damaging the pickup wires. That would necessitate a complete re-wind of the pickup (as the damaged wires are at the deepest part of the coil). Also, as you raise the pole piece up, there is less of it remaining in the coil, so the benefit is less than you think.

This is a problem that has always existed with all pickups to some extent and just about all pickup manufacturers recommend the pickup is adjusted closer on the high E string side for exactly this reason. How much that is is up to you and your ears and choice of string gauges to decide. Personally, I like a 0.5 mm, 1/64" closer.
