Hi Guys!

Just received my Beautiful Majesty AD 7 strings after 11 months waiting...! Beautiful guitar and it sounds great. I'm very happy. Just have now to adjust amp settings to sound greater... but that's all part of the fun!!

I had a question concerning the height of the pickups. Is there any way to adjust it, I mean make humbucker closer to the strings? (As on a Ibanez JS for example)?

After having set up a bit action and tuning, I found action a bit high after the 15th fret. Truss rod looks ok, I adjusted it already and I'm at the limit to buzz, so I think it's ok.
Is there any way to adjust the height of the strings by adjusting the saddles on the bridge for example? Can we also adjust the height of the trem?

Thanks for all your answers!

Hi Anthony,

EDIT: You can't change the pick-up height.

As for string height, if you follow Music Man's advice, it'll tell you to adjust string height by adjusting the truss rod. There is quite the debate as to whether that is the correct method. Some argue it is, others argue truss rod should be strictly for setting the relief on the neck. The truth is that slight truss rod adjustments could alter the string height without drastically changing a neck's bow. However, ideally if your truss rod is set-up to an optimal position, you should then only be adjusting string height either through the saddles or the bridge height.

My recommendation is to avoid changing the bridge height, as it is meant to be as straight and flush with the body as possible. In that case, you should try to lower the saddles themselves rather than lowering the whole bridge.

That's basically what I did recently when re-adjusting my JP15.

Hi Anthony,

As for raising the pick-ups, you can do so by turning the screws holding them in place.

Best to use saddles to adjust individual string height. Keep the bridge as much flush to the body as possible, although its not a rule as such!.

Cheers on that beauty :)

Thanks to both of you for your answers.

Concerning the point about pick-ups height, I did try to turn the screws beside the humbuckers, but I had the feeling they didn't move...I'll try again.

Indeed, I think also adjust the trem is not the right thing to do, as it looks to me well in place, straight with the body.
Concerning truss rod, I would not adjust this at first to set up action, for me as well this is first of all for relief of the neck.

So concerning saddles.... I think I'll have to adjust at least one of them.
I deliberately increased action to identify where I had an issue with a buzz. After tuning and adjust a bit the truss rod, and tuning again .... I still have my A string buzzing from fret 2 to 6, when others strings have an high action and no buzz at all anywhere else.
So, how should I adjust the saddle? This trem is new for me and don't know how to do this. I see 2 small kind of screw heads beside each saddle, I think this could be where I should apply a tool, but the head of the screw is a small hole, circle shape (not for allen key)... well don't know exactly what to do.

Could someone help on this??

Thanks for your help!

I'll let the experts speak here, but as far as I know, you cannot adjust the height of the pickups in a EBMM JP (at-least that's true for my JP, not sure about the Majesty). Of-course there may be other ways to do it, but turning the screws is not going to adjust the pickup height as far as I know.

Secondly, yes the saddle height can be adjusted using an Allen Key (I don't recall the exact size), and it would go into the two holes on the side of each saddle. They are pretty sensitive, so apply small turns and do equal turns in both the holes to have it leveled. Make sure the saddles and strings roughly follow the radius of the fretboard, no rule here to be exact, but you'll know if a string is too high or too low.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thanks very much for your help. I'll try again an Allen key to adjust the saddles, I just need to find the right size of it.

Let's wait for other guys, I hope someone knows for sure if pick-ups height on Majesty can be adjusted or not.

Thanks again
Anthony

The pickups mount directly to the body with no mechanism for height adjustment.

When i had my JPX barolo, i was able to adjust the pickup height slightly with a screwdriver before the pickup became too high and started rattling in the cavity. Something a lot of people do and that i recommend you try is to insert foam pieces underneath the pickups to allow for more adjustment.

You could also Install Springs on the Screws Underneath the Pick-Ups and that will provide Tension for Height adjustment..
