I purchased a used 25th Anniversary about 1 month ago off of ebay from a EBMM dealer in St. Louis called Eddies Guitars. It came in perfect shape! If I didn't know it was used I would swear it was new. The last couple of days I've started getting fret buzz on the 1st and 2nd frets. So I took it to a local guitar tech. When he started trying to adjust the truss rod it wasn't moving very easily. So he placed his hand on the neck close to the bridge and pressed down(I almost had a s*&^ fit right then) and when he adjusted the truss rod again it moved freely. He wants me to place the headstock on a couple of books and place a light weight on the neck close to the bridge because he says the neck is trying to warp. He says the necks has a backbow in it and by adding this light weight it will help in the adjustment of the truss rod so he can do a proper set up. I called Eddies Guitars to ask if this was a proper fix and the tech there said it should be fine as long the weight is light 5 lbs or so. So that's what I'm doing. Has anybody had any similar problems or issues or advice. Since this is a used EBMM the warranty is voided. The tech says if it had been set up properly there wouldn't be any issue, but I've read multiple times here that EBMM come set up straight from the factory better than most techs could do. I will appreciate any advice that can be given. By the way this tech is probably about 60 and he talks like he's been around the block a few times so I hope I'm not blindly trusting someone that doesn't know what he's talking about! Thanks.

Well it's possible the truss rod was binding a bit in the neck, forcing it a bit can free it up. (Nothing really wrong with pulling on the neck a bit to do that.)

As for loading it up, you should contact EBMM to get their advice. They're the experts here. The rest of us are guessing, and none of us has seen the guitar.

Hey There-
first off welcome to the forum and congrats on the 25th- that's one heck of a guitar you picked up and after the guitar is all setup we hear on the forum like to say "it doesn't exist without picks" show 'er off when ya can :)

I'm not one to throw out advice in regards to setups unless i'm right there looking at the guitar... i'm sure someone will be around shortly to answer your question... but i would say that it doesn't sound too far off if that helps :)

Thanks for the swift replies and I've taken your advice beej and sent this question to the customer service dept. If this was one of my other guitars I wouldn't be this hesitant, but this is my 1st high dollar(at least to me) guitar, and I don't want to take any chances!!!

Wow He lost me after the truss rod. Maybe he is great. But claiiming that it wouldnt be a problem if it was set up right initially is just downright stupid. Its wood. Your climate is changing...it is entirely possible that the neck could go bad but usually the truss rod fixes it. Please trly not to do something drastic like piling a bunch of weights on it...Did it play ok after he adjusted the truss rod?

Well you heard it from the highest source, so if things are good now and it is playing fine I would skip the weights. I had posted not to long ago about buying 2 dead mint guitars over the years on ebay that came from Arizona and had fret sprout and my friend and tech Mike told me to just wait it out for awhile which I did, and in 2 months it was gone and I have never had an issue again with them.

In your case I know it is your pride and joy but if like BP said if it is playing good just leave it, and it will probably adjust to your climate and heal itself. What your tech said to do I have never heard before not to say it is off the wall but just give it some time.
