I have to do something really bad, and I need your advice. I've just been offered a contract overseas (this happens with annoying regularity) and I'll be away for between 12-18 months. Once again, all but one of my guitars will be in storage, including my beloved EBMMs as I refuse to travel with anything irreplacable.
My normal storage is as follows - kept in their cases in a room which is damp free and does not experience extremes of temperature. Before I leave, I restring and clean the instruments as best I can and slightly detune to relieve pressure on the necks. I also make sure my brother checks on them every couple of months to make sure nothing bad is brewing. Any other advice to ensure my axes are safe and sound in my absence would be appreciated - thanks guys.

P.S. It is hell leaving them :(

Don't detune it unless you relieve the tension in the truss rod. I would leave it tuned mice elf.

Jon, if you're going to start writing like Ol' Fuzzy, I'm going to stop reading your posts...

...too darn hard to figure out what the heck he's talking about...

I'm moving to Europe this summer. Interestlingly, I am selling some stuff and "consolidating" my gear, but I fully intend to take everything with me!

I would love to take all my babies with me, but I know I'll be back in a year or so. I am also a massive PRS fan - my singlecut trem is a beaut but will be left behind with my EBMMs. I'm only taking my customised strat with me which is already battered and has travelled extensively with me.

Oh, I wasn't implying you were doing a bad thing. It's probably a better idea to leave the nice ones behind.

I just can't do it, personally. I need to play those things! And I intend to find a band or something once there.

SCTrem! Yeah, baby! :D

I know you weren't saying anything bad, believe me it hurts to leave any of them behind. But I'm limited with space for what I can bring, I have to bring the most versatile axe I can. No disrespect to any of my EBMM axes which are amazing, but the EVH is not the most versatile guitar, however nice it is to play. The SC trem is versatile, but a little expensive to be my travelling guitar. My strat with beefed up Dimarzio pickups is cool and can adapt to most styles. I'm just getting it back on Monday with Clapton mid-boost fitted as well which should spice things up nicely. That should see me through a year, but I will miss the others...
