It is a darn sight easier to understand than the GK.
I haven't given up on the GK, just needed something lightweight for practice, plus I can now leave my old Polytone minibrute round at my girlfriends, with the 20th SR4, so will be able to practice when I visit her.

hey kids!
excuse my ignorance.. ive been having slight twinglings in my gas loins for GK and MB... are they REALLY that good?
i was told the ONLY option when it came to my rig was Ampeg SVT and 810... but i hear so much good about GK and Markbass. The only problem being that dealers here dont stock it.. its all ashdown and trace stuff competing with my peg-rig-o-doom

edit: oh yeah, i'm after a nice compact practice rig (combo? couple of 12s? a 15? a chainsaw to my 8x10?)

When I bought my GK rig I had the chance to try Ampeg and Ashdown at the same time. The Ampeg was too muddy for my tastes and the Ashdown sounded a little clinical, lacking in warmth. The GK was just right, powerful, punchy, warm and growly. As related in another thread, I do find the controls a little confusing, but I am slowly working them out with help from my EBMM bretheren.
I've only had the Mark Bass for a couple of hours. I am pretty impressed. For such a compact unit it has a lot of grunt. The controls are really easy to operate too. Tonewise, it is very pleasing.

With that much boost you're gonna get an awful lot of growl!
I have the basics figured now, thanks to adouglas. I tend to leave the tone controls at the midday position. It's "tweeter", "contour" and "presence" I need to work out now.
Do you use the 5-string switch?

Yup. Keep that 5 string switch pushed in. Also keep the tweeter and woofer cut pushed in.

Wow! I've just been playing my single H Bongo through the Mark Bass rig. Incredible tone. I cannot believe how aggressive and gnarly it sounds. Truly a Stingray on steroids! Anabolic ones, at that!

It cuts the higher frequencies on both the woofer and tweeter. Cuts some clank out
Probably how he gets by running the boost that high too.

You are going to have to paint that room now. The orange doesn't really go with your current colour scheme. Don't you watch Trading Spaces or any of those other designer shows? Sheesh!

I rent this house. The landlord doesn't have great taste. I don't care, he is subsidising me. He can have whatever colour scheme he wants.

No, I was going to take the Mark Bass rig to practice on Monday and surprise my band mates. But, I've had some great advice on the GK, from here, that I think I will use it one last time, breaking my back in the process, just to dial it in.
