I'd like to find out when my Stingray was made. The only thing I can find that resembles a serial number is under the bridge saddles on the bridge mounting plate.
The number is 'D 08008'. Does that look right?
Any help is appreciated.

Is it a PRE Ernie Ball bass? If it's an EB this will be written on the head stock.

Pre EB's were prefixed with the letter "B" and had 6 digits.

If it's an EB, does it have 4 or 5 strings?

No. This is an 4 string Ernie Ball Stingray with the 3-band EQ.
I purchased it new in late '98 or early '99. There are no numbers on the headstock. All it says on the headstock is "Ernie Ball MusicMan Stingray" on the front and "Made in USA, San Luis Obispo, CA" on the back. The only number I can find on it are the numbers under the string saddles on the face of the bridge.

Could this be a special edition???? It's clear maple with a rosewood fretboard. The neck and headstock have a beautiful birdseye pattern to it.
