Perhaps the main difference is the arm contour of the AL.
If you are used to play a strat, you will prefer the AL.
If you prefer a guitar without an arm contour, take the Axis.
If you are used to play a strat, you will prefer the AL.

Axis & Al's are both great gittars! Same pickups, only with covers on the AL HH.
Besides the lack of arm contour on the Axis, the neck carve differs.
AL's have a nice round "C" shape, where as the Axis is asymmetrical = thicker on the bass side...

I have both and they are both fantastic / I have been playing the AL live all summer long / the more I play the AL the more I love it / the slightly wider neck gives me that split second to be more thoughtful in lead lines / I know that sounds weird but it's just another reason to love the AL
"...slightly wider neck..." this to me is/was a very important point.
The Axis (S(S)) necks are really quite narrow, and I know a lot of folks who don't get along with that. I do
However, for some playing techniques the wider neck and veeeerrry slightly wider strings spacing felt a little more comfy. But I stuck to my AS(S) and got so used to the necks.

I never ever thought I'd get an AL due to the body shape BUT, this guitar looks fantastic in person and I get a ton of compliments on it! The guitar..... not my playing, never played one prior got it on line local / if you are on the fence go for it

I thought the shape seemed goofy...but once I played one, it was all over. Super comfortable and the look really grew on me.

I did the same thing. Would see them in the store for years, look at it and think "I'm not even touching that"...
Then one day a particular one caught my eye and my interest... sat down with it... and took it home!
And that moment led to this after a number of years...

If I could wire position 4 or 2 for series in place of parallel it would be a perfect guitar for my needs. I thought about buying a Reflex, again... just for this capability, and switching out the components to make this happen / had a Reflex loved it, but prefer the compact feel of the AL and Axis
