Regretably I have been unable to try out an AL with piezo option, in the UK.

The following info, has been conveyed to me in a PM...

"you might want to order it with the shorter strat-style knobs instead of the tele knobs as I find the first one is kinda close to the strings....."

So you people out there who own an AL with Piezo option... "Is the size of the knobs a big issue?"

Does it/do they cause any problems when playing?

And if a tech support moderator is reading this "What are your thoughts please?"

Ha! Touche!

Just been downstairs to look at some of my AL DVD's and the one he is using doesn't have the piezo option he (only) has two knobs?

The views of "owners of AL weilding axes (with Piezos)" would really be appreciated.

This is interesting, and I don't mean to derail the topic, but I remember this sort of thing came up when Petrucci guitars were being discussed (here and on other forums). So naturally when I purchased mine I was worried about the knobs and/or switch (see I can't even remember which casue it doesn't bother me) getting in the way...well for the first minute of so I noticed, perhaps because people mentioned it, or perhaps not, but regardless I got lost in the guitar and I've never looked back...people say things that don't mean s&*%, adjust and move on! These are professional guitars made for and designed by professionals, they're not rinky dinky by any means.

I sent that PM and I think I posted on the forum about it a while back - when I'm playing a muted rhythm part with my palm across the bridge - kinda like a U2 type of rhythm - I'm finding that the tele type knob is getting in my way a bit. My pinky is pretty tightly wedged between the knob and the MM90. I'm thinking that with a shorter knob, I'd be able to rest my pinky on top of it.

i remember having a similar "worry" when i ordered my JP6; id read that for some people the pup switch got in the way of strumming ... low and behold when my JP was in my hands i never experienced that at all.

im sure youll be fine

Unless the volume knob is in the middle of the fretboard, it normally only takes a few plays to get used to these things.

I had similar reservations about the EVH selector switch. I dont any more.

It's a subjective thing - I don't think one person's experience will automatically translate to someone else - I was just offering him info on my experience. The volume knob is pretty close to the MM90 on an AL w/ piezo - closer than any other EBMM I've seen...

...... and it's these kind of observations I'm after - as it's difficult to see one in the flesh !!

I think the spacing for the AL knobs is very similar to the Silo spacing. There's plenty of room for me to get my fat pinky (finger) inbetween them as do as I wish. I don't need no stinkin' piezo selection switch.

NorM,

Looking at a pic of a silo w/ piezo, it's close, but the width of the MM90 takes it out past where the trem bar goes into the bridge - the AL w/ MM90's is definitely tighter...

OK I take it all back, I just played the Albert Lee dvd "Live from Mars"
He plays a Vintage sunburst with Piezo no problem. (did I really expect anything else ????}

The bonus track on the DVD has him also playing his non piezo Red AL backstage.
Wow that guitar has one of the nicest flame necks I have seen - you can stick your b'eye that one for me please!!!
