Help! Albert Lee HH 2010 push/pull tone pot replacement

Hey ebmm fam,

My GC exclusive Albert Lee HH from 2010 took a big spill today and just so happened to land on the tone knob, which is (was) the push/pull coil tap special from that time. The entire core post broke off and came out as a result.
Does anybody know how to obtain a replacement for this particular push/pull pot?
This is typically my main axe and I really need to get it back in shape ASAP.

You need a 500kΩ push/pull SHORT solid shaft. Some pots have a long shaft for use where the pots fits through the wood. Others have a short shaft for use with a pickguard. You want short shaft. The knob has a set screw, so that mean solid shaft (rather than split).

Yup! It's a standard pot any guitar shop should have handy. Plus a dozen online retailers would as well.

I'm assuming you'll want someone to install it for you as well- I would probably take it to your local repair shop and let them have at it.

Quick note if you're doing this yourself. The CTS pots are my favorite but they are a little trickier to solder because of the attached PCB. They're also wider and can sometimes be hard to get in a tight cavity if the mounting hole is too close to the side. Bournes pots are a good alternative that are closer to the original part.

like DrKev said, though, the most important things are short shaft, solid post, 500k.

Another thought. I had a push pull pop out like that once. I was able to line up the flat side by feel and with a little gentle pressure it actually popped back in and worked fine till I swapped it out.

Don't know if that will work for you, and I would still recommend replacing it, but it may help to get you by in a pinch.

That's a long shaft pot for controls mounted through the wood. He needs a short shaft pot for mounting through a pickguard.
