Hi Y'all
I recently purchased 2 Albert Lee guitars. One with tremelo and one hardtail. I noticed the tremelo equipped model had a bigger neck.
Is this for a reason? I really prefer the slightly thicker neck profile. I did not think there were neck options with the AL model.
Thank-you,
alvis

KRZ4EB, from what I understood there shouldn't be a difference between the necks. Is there a big difference in years between the 2 guitars? This might explain the difference.

Did you take measurements or are you going by feel and by eye?

Hopefully someone from EBMM can chime in here, I'd be interested in understanding this.

Evidence of Neck Size Difference

Hi,
I finally got a measuring tape to verify the neck size difference in the trem vs hardtail AL guitars. There was no doubt going by feel since my thumb could almost fret the b on the hardtail.
All measures given in cm around the front and back of neck at the given fret
1st fret: T=11, HT 10.6
3rd fret T=11.5, HT 11
5th fret T=11.7, HT 11.3
7th fret T= 12, HT 11.6
9th fret T= 12.3,HT 12
12th fret T= 12.6,HT 12.2

Anybody could immediately tell the difference in the 2 necks. It is not a subtle difference. This is why I wondered if the neck on a trem model was purposely larger.

KRZ, what are the years of the AL's. Maybe they made some neck mods or something??

Albert Lee Neck Differences Cont'd

The hardtail is brand new Glenn and the tremelo was used when I bought it, but the seller indicated he had it about a year and he bought it new at GC.
How do you determine the date on a AL?
I am new with the MM guitars but I really am bonding with these two guitars.
I particulary like the larger neck. It fits my hand perfectly!
That is why I thought if I could custom order that size neck in a hardtail with the piezo bridge it would be killer!

Yah sorry man there is no such thing as custom ordering at EBMM. Since they offer some many options, every order is like a custom order.

As for dating your guitar. Create a thread called "DOB Please". Then in the posting give the serial number. Jon, Derek or someone at EBMM will get you the info you looking for. Just please be patient as they are going this out of the kindness of their hearts. Also, because their customer service is second to none!!!

EBMM doesn't have a dating scheme like F*nder or the other. They record the serial number when they gave the plate out of a box during assembly, or something like that.

Yah AL's are amazing I always thought that the shape was radical, but I couldn't beleive it when people told me that it was comfortable. Then when I got mine I was like DAMN!!!

Hope this helps, Glenn |B)

My current AL SC trem feels slightly bigger than my former AL MM90 trem, which were bought new within a year of each other.
