looking for a reason NOT to get a piezo. I'm totally sold on EBMM piezo systems.
I'm looking for people to brag or complain about their ALs with piezos. I'm fairly convinced I'de never buy an EBMM without one.

Hmmm, I can't see a reason not to get one.

Unless you had an allergy to them maybe?

I've not got an Albert, but I've got a piezo on both my Super Sport and my 20th, it's a great addition in my mind.

Looking for reasons? Good luck.

The only one I would have for you is some people have said non-piezo EBs have a fuller sound, possibly because piezos require more wood to be hollowed out of the body.

That's not a good reason. Get it.

Volume knob positioning may well be a factor.

I'm looking for a definitive on this one but I think that on the Piezo equipped AL's the additional knob results in the volume knob being closer to the pickup than a non Piezo.

But I'm really reaching to even find that:D

You are right Drbob insofar as the Magnetic volume knob is closer than on a non piezo equipped AL. I have a full sized cut out out of a piezo equipped AL scratchplate that I placed on top of my LEAL to prove the point.

In answer to your question about "should I - shouldn't I"

YOU JUST GOTTA GET THE PIEZO !!
IT'S AMAZING!!

You get 2 guitars for the price of one but there is one downside!!!

You won't be happy until you get a dedicated acoustic amp - it makes one hell of a difference and I used to be skeptical about acoustic amps.

Foggy I just can't say in words how much I love the piezo - it is so versatile too!
What I would add is that if you are sitting on the fence undecided -get it - you will so much regret not getting one later on - I am and always will be a huge piezo fan.

I really miss it on my LEAL.

If you want it, get it. It's definitely worth the money.

Only real downside (other than added cost) is complexity - more parts, more things to go wrong. But you rarely hear about piezo or pre-amp problems in these fiddles.

Oh- and the saddles will be different. You'll have the block saddles instead of the vintage. Some (ok me) find a tonal difference between the two.

Of all my EBMMs I only have one w/ a piezo and that's the JP. I love it in my arsenal but don't know if I would have all of my guitars w/ it.

I ordered my AL without it because I wanted a just a strat killer guitar w/ 3 single coils and a trem and that's it.

My Axis didn't come w/ one, and I wanted the Luke floating (plus there was some talk of the active pickups and piezo have different tone or a reduction of signal...or something like that). I heard so much good things about the piezo on the JP guitar and heard him in concert using it (awesome) so I just decided to equip just that one w/ it. I have no regrets on any of my decisions.

this is Pete main weapon these days. IMHO, the MM piezo HAS to sound better then an aftermarket fishman.

Sorry to disappoint Spud, lol. It's just what I wanted. I like the color, the light weight and simplicity of the Al. No regrets man, no matter how much you try to make me feel guilty!! Ha Ha HA. :)

well i'm a fan of the piezo too, but i dont own an AL w/piezo YET! The only reason i would have for not getting one is if you dont have the right amp setup to make full use of the piezo. I gig heaps and use the piezo every night on stage, but i never use it at home at all, i would if i had an acoustic amp i guess. The piezo sounds average through a normal amp.
