Slucas,

Now I got ya! I didn’t mean to sound like I was lashing out. You are a true bongoloid! (Is this the name that we have been officially given? Just remember I’m new here.) … let’s just leave the toilet seat image to the toilets so all potential new bongoloids will have no excuse to pick up a Bongo and enjoy!

Now to switch back to a happy note … the new Pearl White finish rocks! I highly recommend it.

BP, I have an idea that I will run through AJ about a real Bongo Campaign. He can run it upstream as I know you are busy. If you would like to be in on it from the launching of the first ideas send me your email addy. [email protected]

The "Bongo" is, hands down, the "baddest" sounding bass out there - bar none!!
And, I'm a "skinny" stringer - BUT, I know what my bass player is going to sound like in MY band!!!

Get an SVT to go with it and PUNCH IT - you may need a bathroom at that point!!! Now, let's move on:)

I picked up a spot gig tonight and I will get to play my Bongo for the first time in a live situation! It’s with a “variety band” so I’ll get to put it to good use. I’m so excited I can hardly work! (I hope James doesn’t see this.)

Also, quick question. I know it maybe cliché to name your instruments but I was wondering if any of you guys do it? I’m thinking of giving this bass a nickname besides “Brandt White Sparkle Bongo 4 HH one off”. Any ideas?

Oh, you meant Earl like a man’s name …. I thought that you were saying earl like the southern pronunciation of the word oil. Like, “I didn’t know that I had to change the earl in my generator like in a car”.

Guys,

I just wanted to follow up and post a reply letting you all know how happy I am with my new Bongo. I even got a call from BP personally asking me what my thoughts were so I figured I’d let the forum members know as well.

As you may or may not know I work in a bass store. (The Perfect Bass in Baton Rouge if my handle and avatar didn’t already give it away.) I would say that over the course of the last few years I have played a large number of basses at our store and at NAMM shows so I know a thing or two about what the bass market has to offer. Now I’m not going to say that “this is the best bass that I have ever played” because I like particular things about some of the other instruments that I own. I will however say that when playing in an ensemble, the Bongo HH is extremely easy to dial in. I have been very lucky the last few weeks, since this bass has arrived, and I have picked up a wide variety of “spot” gigs ranging from country to pop and rock. This bass nails them all better than any other single bass that I own. (And I’ve think I’ve got a pretty full tool bag.) I will admit there are a few basses that may be better at pulling off one particular sound but the Bongo HH gets close, scary close, to a bunch of then. I am very happy to say that for the last three plus weeks I have only carried one brand of bass to my gigs. The White Pearl/Stealth Bongo HH gets the start every night and waiting in the bullpen is my ’02 SR5H.

On the Country/Pop gig I dial the blend knob to produce about 70% front pickup and I boost the low EQ to about 2 O’Clock. ( 6.5 on a scale from 1-10 with 5 being the detent for 0 boost.) This gives me a ton of round bottom that sits well with the kick and make for a nice soft bottom that is still definable. I leave the top end alone, the blending of the pickups help even the top out and keep it very smooth but present.

When it’s time to play a rock gig the pickups, for me, stay equally blended. I add a tad of low-mid (About 6.5 using the scale above) and a pinch of low (about 6.0). Once again I don’t touch the top; the pickup blend set to equal lends a little more bark to the output which helps me “get heard” over a loud drummer with a heavy foot.

Saturday night I actually ran straight through a DI box into 3 BOSE columns at a small club that I played at. My guitar player, who I have played with for two year said, “Wow, I can hear your bass!” I was thinking, “Dang, once again I can hear only your guitar AMP!” The Bongo sounded great through the very natural BOSE PA and I could hear every single note that I played, which can be scary for mine the audience’s ears.

All in all I am really enjoying my new Music Man Bongo 4 HH. Thank you BP for pushing the industry forward and coming out with such an innovative bass. Also much thanks to everyone who had a hand in the creation of this beast! Thanks to AJ my rep for his continued great support and to the Knuckleheads for sharing all of your passion and devotion towards a great company with great products.

Thanks for listening. (Reading)

nice review Brandt. As you know the 4HH is my favorite. How about those Bose? I have been playing through them for a few years. They are great.

BTW - any fretless news?

Eggman,

I didn’t believe what I was hearing at first but yes, the Bose systems are great.

I have basses showing up left and right from the same PO that yours was order on. I am expecting it any day now!

Hey Mine came to day, and I am so hype, but how do you open the batt. compartment, is this suppose to come with a wrench to adjust the action.

Just push in on the latch tab to open the battery compartment. You can use a screwdriver to adjust neck relief (the magic truss rod wheel) which is the first step to action adjusting.

Thanx. I just want to lower the bridge action a lil the neck action is fine. The strings are just a lilttle higher than I like, as far as the batt. compartment I have been pushing on the thing, I'll try again, other than these minor things I am happy as can be.

please dont readjust the bridge without turning the truss rod first...this usually fixes it fine and when people start with the bridge is when things start getting crazy

Psychicpet ,

I haven’t been thinking about it too much lately. The idea for the bass was inspired by the Duff McKagan bass so I was thinking about a G&R inspired name … I kind of like “Gunner” or “Gunther”?

Aj, originally called the “project” the McBourque Bass but I’m not sure I like having my name in the name of the bass ….

…I sound like a girl …..I need to just make a decision … and more suggestions? Thoughts? Comments?

***WOODY357 - Congrats on the Bongo man! Enjoy!

I hear everyone saying adjust the truss rod, but I don't have a problem with at action on the neck, it's the string hight where my right hand is I like it to be a lil lower. The neck action os fine I could stand for it to a bit lower, but I can live with it.
