..hi to you all..
..i´m afraid i need your advice..

..reading through all the threads in here and getting more and more familiar with the community here (and a fabulous one it is), it just was a matter of time until gas got me..

..as a result i am now proud owner of a mint jp7 in pearl redburst, fully loaded..

..experimenting with tunings for half the day now i´m asking myself if it hurts the neck of the guitar if i try to play in DDADGBE (there is a little bit more tension on the neck as usually the 7th string is tuned to B)..

..this tuning would be helpful for me as until now i played my silo in dropped D and many of the songs of my band are written for dropped D, otherwise i do not want to violate this very very very fine guitar..

..as an addendum let me tell you that the neck although a little bit broader than the necks of six stringed guitars is very very easy to handle (i just wish that i had longer fingers as this would be helpful now and then)..:D

..thanx for your advice..psy

I don't think it would be a problem accepting any kind of tuning. You just have to use the right string gauge and set up the axe to "hold" that tuning. I have tuned my guitars all kinds of different tunings and just had to make a few adjustments.

Yeah, you could just buy a normal set of strings and then buy an extra low E guage string.

..hi..thx for your answer..
..did making the adjustments include a change of the neck tension via the truss rod ? because thats what i´m afraid of...that the increased tension of the lower b string (now tuned to d) will cause the neck to warp..

As I am no expert, the string gauge will change and you need to adjust the truss rod...and may have to adjust the intonation. Seriously, I would take it to a trusted repair shop and have them look at it and let them decide as they are the pros. I just do things and hope for the best...lol. ;)
