...for a 410?

I apologize if this doesn't belong in this forum, but I know there are alot of LOCAL fellow knuckleheads here who might help me out.

I've really missed the sound and punch of a 410 cab. Enough so that I am thinking of trading my Epifani UL112's for a NEO 410 of equal quality & value. What do you guys think of this, and what about the difference in sound and portability? The UL112's are only 30 pounds each where a 410 would be about 70 pounds. Any thoughts? Trades?

I would like to make this a local transaction so that we could both try before we trade.

I generally prefer 12s and 15s over 10s but I just snagged an Ampeg 810 yesterday so maybe that will change.

I'm trying to picture you hauling around that 8-10.

Oh, there's absolutely no hauling going on. The seller delivered it to my driveway and my 6' son helped me put it in my basement music room. End of movement for that cab unless I sell it. Any hauling involves small, lightweight Epi or Berg cabs.

From the guy who is looking for an 8lb Bongo ! :D:D:D

I found an 8.1 lb Bongo last year Mark. It just floats on a strap and sounds great.

The portability of the 2 112's is a real advantage. Do you feel that the tone is that unsatisfactory?

It's not that the tone is bad, it's just that I used to have an SVT410HLF paired with my shuttle 6.0 for a short time, and I remember the sound to be more defined. That setup really pushed some air! That's what I guess I want to see. If the sound is THAT much different/better or not.

You do have a point on the portability factor. The 2/12 setup is SUPER light, and I can carry one cab in each hand with my bass on my back in a gig bag. One trip! The 410 would require wheels, and be a bit more bulky to carry. I still want a 410 with NEO drivers and weigh about 70 pounds or less.

Are you serious about the definiton?
I've got the HLF. It certainly pushes a lot of air and roars even with rather weak amps.
But I never saw the definition or clarity as one of its strong features.

Maybe with the 410HLF it was more of the amount of AIR it moved, but there WAS a difference in punch between the 12's and the 10's. I used to also have a 610HLF and THAT definitely had more punch than either the 410 or 2 112's.

I would sell the 12s and get a Bergantino AE410. It's 62lbs and it's going to sound better with the shuttle than pretty much any other 4x10" that's out there. I think I saw one on TB for $800 the other day. I know they aren't cheap, but IMO, they are totally worth it. They sound unbelievable.

I was thinking of selling my AE410 in order to purchase 2 12's just for portability, but I ended up just buying a single twelve instead and keeping the berg. The berg isn't as boomy as the 410HLF (I used to won one of those as well, I liked it) but I like the AE410 much better and it matches really well with Markbass micro heads, I can't comment on the shuttle though as I've never tried one with the Berg.

Just wanted to say I own a UL2-112 and LOVE it. It is the best cabinet I've owned... period. I've had 12s, 2 10's, 115s and 2 5s from various brands. However, I never owned a 410 due to weight issues. I will say I've heard another person with the Ampeg 410 you mentioned. It moved air for sure but imho the UL2-112 blew it away tone, clarity and low end wise.

If I were serious about a 410 I'd definitely check out Epifani and Bergantino side by side with the Ampeg. IME ymmv

I wish I could just sell my 12's and pickup that Berg on TB, but I don't believe it is local to me. I have a hard time shipping cabs, and even harder receiving used cabs that have been shipped. Is there any retailers that SELL these cabs, so I could try one out?

Keep 'em if you can and add a 4X10 later. 2 1X12s and a 4X10 work pretty good together. Just sayin....

Buddy of mine needed to borrow my big amp and since the arrival of the 4X10 was questionable, I brought my ultralights just in case. Suffice to say the 4X10 made it and since the amp could do it, I hooked all of them up. I went through all the trouble of bringing the so may as well use' em right? :D
