Am I Nuts? (30th Anni Content)

I am about to do a deal for a BACKUP 30th Anniversary SR.

I have had a 30th for almost a year and it has become my #1 gigging bass. BP is right... it IS the best bass EBMM has ever made.

My idea is to string one 30th with Slinkys and the other with flats... the ultimate gigging bass combination!!!

Am I nuts or should I keep my $$$ and just be happy using my 2007 LE or Sadowsky as a backup?

I'm with ya, Baird. I love my 30th more than any bass I've ever owned. However, when I pick up the buttercream with EB flats on her, well, it's like picking up a big stick of butter. Warm, phat, melts in my hands, and delicious as hell.

Another part of my says yes, you're nuts. Why not a different bass? Blank plank Bongo with flats (did I actually say that?)? Sterling with flats?? Or best of all, this new 25th Anni everyones all excited to see.

Good luck with your decision. This damn GAS hurts!

I feel ya, but I have to "call you you" on one point. I don't think BP said the 30th was the best EBMM bass ever made; he said it was the best STINGRAY ever made.

flats = good clean fun, and gives you another dimension to experiment with.
just go for it! you wont regret it

I have owned dozens of different basses over the years and always seem to come back to Fender Ps (and I have 2 amazing Ps that aren't going anywhere) and Stingrays. Stingrays have been my main bass off and on for over 20 years and since my 30th is better than any of the pre-EB SRs I have owned, a Sterling I just sold, a couple of SR5s I used to have, my current 2006LE SR4, etc.... I figured.... why not "stock up"? Nothing wrong with having 2 exactly the same basses if they are "the one" IMO.

I suppose it's fairly well-known by now that I by and large gig/play/rehearse/skip rope with Bongos, but every now and then I'll play something else.

(My 'something else' is nowhere near as shocking (!!) as yours, of course - a Stingray 5 is about as adventurous as I gets.) (But still.)

Absofreakinglutely. I have two Bongo H fivers right now. They're alike enough that I feel completely at home on both; they both feel different enough that I can enjoy the change. I think I have to keep them both.

It's good to know what you like and what you want - and to have it.

Truth be told the only object for us is money! I if hit the lottery- id have hundreds-seriously-I agree 100% about another 30th-what was the production run ?

Keep it as a spare ,all of these basses will only increase in value- even more-so in pristine condition --special edition basses---- its a good investment- look at the prices of the pre and post 65 fenders a GC near me has 65 or 66 P bass for 10,500.00 or so of course thats on the low side

Should have my 2nd 30th late this week.

I got it for about the same price as a good used standard SR. I couldn't pass it up. Already threw a set of flats on my current 30th and it sounds great. Be perfect for the Stones, ZZ Top, Doobies and all of the other classic stuff I play. The 30th for RHCP and funk.... perfect!

Can't wait until my next gig in a couple of weeks....

P.S. WHAT WAS the production run on 30ths?
