The Orange *IS* a little one-dimensional, but has great tone.

i agree. for me there are 4 awesome sounds in my thunderverb 50. on channel one i love the clean with the volume wide open and the gain low or a nice searing lead tone and on two i love the metal tones, with the shape knob set to 2 o'clock (more mids, rough rude sound) or 4:30 (the black album kind of sound). it is also a THICK and dark sounding amp, i can't imagine anyone who loves Vox or Fender type sounds to ever like an amp like that.

Kinda get that "too good to be true" feeling, eh? I can understand that.

The experience I have with them has all been positive, so that's what I base my opinion on. Can't say I've had the time to really see how well they're built since I don't own one, but they sure do sound good. And the price is right.

glad to know, cuz it's exactly what i get when everyone's raving about stuff. i can imagine everyone actually meaning it, but i think some people don't wait a couple of weeks after purchasing something before raving about how awesome it is.

Maybe you should have a look at the Engl Screamer Combo or the Classic Tube Combo. As you've already used an Engl amp you should know about their reliability.

I really have to try out the blackstar amps that video of Albert lee has just sold it, is he endorsing them now?, just looking at there website there they have a new ht venue series coming out later this month nice video of it on youtube there too! Think the blackstar and orange are winning the race at the moment going to go try out all the models I can. That guy rob chappers get some great sounds out of them, though im not completely sure it has the cleans im after.
i can see myself ending up getting two amps:eek:

Egnater's sound nice too mate ye but unfortunately to my knowledge there isn’t anywhere in Ireland I could try one out.

As much as I love my powerball i just feel its time for something different

To my knowledge he is not using them.

At the Bash we had Blackstar as part of the backline, Albert just plugged in and played.

I think if he was endorsing them it would be on the Blackstar website.

If Victor Kiam tried one, he'd like it so much, he'd buy the company!
(Am i showing my age now with Remington advert lines?)

+more on the Blackstar idea.

As Colinboy put it he's gone for the Big Daddy of the range, but if you want everything in one box the 45 watt Series One 2x12 combo is the amp for you.

Lots of gain, or bluesy crunch and a great clean channel as demonstrated by the legendary Albert Lee at the 2009 Knucklehead Bash, you can hear this for yourself on You Tube. It also has midi capability if you are into rack stuff.

I actually use the Artisan handwired series with the Blackstar HT Duel for my crunch/high gain and am considering a HT5 combo.

Your reservations regarding a new amp range I believe to be unfounded, to my knowledge there have been no major issues with any of the Blackstar range, they are built like tanks and will take all the hammer you can throw at them on the road, the 45watt combo also comes with the celestion neo-whatever magnet speakers so it won't break your back when carrying it.

Blackstar all the way for me...... I wonder when they will start making underpants?!!!:D

Hi Paul hope all is well with you mate.you need to get the finger out and start posting here more regularly.
Any news of when Lims is on this year?

cheers,
Colin

now i remember why i took some time away from the forum...
in the last 24 hours i've bought a 20th Silo and now i'm looking at dumping both of my amps for something new... (Currently run two amp one clean and one with dirt... and switch between each and or blend them depending on my mood) but now i'm looking at going with a Blackstar... OMG!!! this is awful (in such a good way) LOL

I don't know if Egnater is really good or not, but I have been curious to try a couple of them. they are available in UK.

Egnater Guitar Amps (GUITARGUITAR)

The one I would like to try out is the Rebel 30 watt head.

Egnater Rebel 30 Head (GUITARGUITAR)

Personally, I play Fender DR, PR and Champ clones that I build myself. I'm working on a PR with master volume and ability to use EL34's right now.

nice... i've been looking at jumping into building an amp... i did a big mod job on a valve junior and really enjoyed it.... i've also built a few pedals and found those fun...
but i'd like to get something to cut back my load in and load out time...

hmm, chappers doesn't really show the cleans all too much. i like the cleans BUT my hiwatt custom 20 kicks it's ass across the globe as far as cleans go. of course, as far as distortion goes, the opposite applies. if you want clean cleans, then i suspect the rockerverb might be better, since it has a channel labeled (can you guess it?) clean and runs off of 6v6 instead of el34. but even then, it's a ROCKERverb, not a twin reverb or anything like that ;)

as for getting 2 amps, great idea, just make sure they're both worth the money.

i wish i knew what kind of sounds you're going for. got any names to drop? bands, tunes?

There will be a lot of new BlackStar amps presented during NAMM :

how long do you think the new models would take to hit the shops? the ht- stage 60 sounds very interesting, though the s1-45 also has me thinking....:D

Colinboy im gonna head to xmusic this weekend ill be in touch if the blackstar is for me!

dante im into everything i play all styles(well try) the clean sounds i like would be andy timmons and SRV, i know everyone doesnt like his sound but i really like the sound paul gilbert has.Im in to a lot of metal music(exodus,testament,forbidden...) too though and would like an amp that could allow me to get this sound with or hopefully without a pedal.
listning to the clips of the blackstar it sounds like they have a that huge range of tones that im looking for.

Apart from spud at the start of this thread no one has mentioned mesa boogie im shocked:eek: but happy too nice to see other people getting what they want out of cheaper amps.

Adam-
im in the same boat... the HT60 Stage is very interesting.
I play at my church so typically i need really good cleans and some good crunch from time to time... but i also want the availability to really dig in if i want to.
I was almost sold on buying the 45 and realized they're releaseing the HT Series so now i'm in limbo!

if you want an amp that can do it ALL, why not give the Mark V a try? I've had a BIT of trouble with mine, but you can get absolute death metal shred tones and sweet bluesy tones as well. They run a bit, but the head and 2x12 would be a fantastic thing to try!
