I just remembered - when I was at the Birmingham NEC "Music Live" show the other week there were a good few guys using Pods to demo guitars and other things like the LicK Library DVD's - Stuart Bull for one was using one - and that guy gets an awesome sound! - if he doesn't - punters won't buy the DVD's.

have I sold you on the Pod yet?? ;)

I'm a Johnson Amp fan. They're defunct now but for cover gigs, they're the way to go. Tube snobs usully turn their nose up at it but once they've heard it in a club they'll grudging accept that it does the job extremely well without having to buy and haul tens of thousands of dollars of amps around.

When I want to get more dynamics of the the amp, I'll take the direct outs into a tube power amp.

In the other direction, most of the presets on the Line 6 stuff are WAY to wet which turns alot of people off. You really have to get into the deep programming of them and tweek the hell out of them.

A fully tweeked XT live through a tube power amp sounds REALLY good.

..i am running my guitars through a pod xt live (which i can highly recommend, especially with the metal pack) into an atomic full range valve amp, special designed for pods..

..before i ran it into a marshall, but the results are much better since i go into the atomic..

I just checked the myspace page of atomic amps, this is a really interesting concept... Good stuff.

definitely gonna go for it, I want to check out the zoom peice as well, I like the XT but it is very wet but it can be tweaked - the GT 8 didnt impress me as a distortion box - gonna check out the zoom tommorow i think -

If you check out the XT or any of those Line6 modelers, make sure you start from scratch!
The presets are basically just to show off some weird effects and stuff.

I recommend to turn off the FX and start by choosing an amp model you like. Then dial in the tone you desire.
Just like in the real world, start adding FX afterwards.

Don't forget to check out the different cab and mic simulations, those can REALLY make a difference!
And remember to take your time when creating a sound: It took me nearly three weeks to set up some basic settings, but it was fun all the time!

i use a vox tonelab se, and love it, people say it cant get good metal tones, but i disagree, i have got some pretty mean metal tones with mine, the thing i love about it is i can get any sound i want out of it with ease.. im keen to try a podx3 looks like a great little unit!

I use an XTLive and an Atomic 2x12 and it's "boner-riffic!" I had tried every combination known to man before buying the Atomic and I am so glad I did. It made everything "happen" for me. There was simply NO COMPARISON when running the XTlive into the power amp section of my Marshall 30th Anniv head then to my Marshall slant vs. the XTlive into the Atomic. The Atomic throws all kinds of low end and makes each setting come to life. You can drastically hear the tone diff from setting to setting. I can't say enough about them. PLUS, the service is excelled. Tom over there at Atomics is a great guy to deal with. Very hands on since the co is still small. There are some cool things ahead for them too I hear (he told me), but I can't tell!

I just wish they made the Atomic 2x12 in 100W, not 50W, but it's plenty loud enough. The best set up I have found so far is running my XTLive in Studio Out mode fully cranked, into a Vol attenuator, then to the Atomic which is also fully cranked. Then I have my Vol Attenuator velcro'd on the top of my XTlive above the Vol pedal, and I control my output volume with that. And it's got a chicken head knob on it, so I can easily adjust it with my foot. I paid like $20 for it on Ebay. Totally worth it.

But lately I have been into having my amp down in front of me, pointed up at my head. I tried it once and I can't hardly do it any other way now. The problem is, the Atomic is too big to do that at every gig (it's a tad smaller than a 4x12!). So, I'm going to buy a small extension cab or monitor and use the Ext Speaker Out on my atomic to route the sound to it. Rocktron makes a guitar wedge esp for this, for like $120. I could also use a vocal monitor with a Celestion in it, and disconnect the horn (cuz I bet it'll be too shrill). The problem with using a regular ext cab, is that you can't get it pointed up at your head very well.

Some guys don't like their guitar amp hitting them in the face like that. But the XTLive thru the Atomic sound SO GOOD, that I'm not at all bothered by shrill frequencies, etc. Granted, if you stand in a certain area, you can get hit with diff freq's. But I find a "pocket of tone" and stand in that. It allows me to be able to hear myself EXTREMELY well, and allows me to keep my stage vol down. This helps the soundman if we use one, and it doesn't cause us to be so competitive for sound space. Also, I don't mic my cab, I use a direct box to feed the PA.

I'm surprised more guys don't do this to be honest. I just can't see doing it any other way now!

Oh, and what's cool about the Atomic is that you can switch the internal speaker off when using an external speaker, or you can leave it on and use BOTH. This will come in handy when we're not running our guitars thru the PA, and using our cabs to project our sound. Otherwise, I'll probl just disable the internal.

Atomics are expensive, but I think they are totally worth it.

..hi..i really think it is..(not affiliated to them in any way)..
..the sound is unbeatable with a pod xt and also if the guitar has a piezo you then have the fullrange valve amp you need to let that piezo really sound..

Hey - have any of you guys tried one of these?

GSP1101

I'm not really a Digitech fan, but I'm really impressed with what I've read on the web about this. The sound samples are pretty good too. Any thoughts?
