I find these threads are more helpful if the OP tells us what kinds of tones they are looking for. Otherwise we all just say what a great amp we have. I have an Engle Powerball that I love, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who really wants a Marshall style tone. Different animal.

well, went out to my local gc today to check out the marshall tsl122 that they had just got in. Plugged in and played for 3 minutes and was blown away. Literally 3 minutes in and I was digging it and then the best part, My friend who works there walks in, turns on the standby and says that it just sold on gc.com! Damn! Well, with the same expectations for the jvm410c, I loaded up my H&K and off I went. Plugged in and after an hour and a half was meh at best. Really couldnt find a tone I like in there. And as per most reviews online, the red channel on od1 and od2 are pretty noisy with the gain past 9 o'clock. Well, looks like I will stick with my gut on this one and hold out for the cornford.
As for The Splawns, played a QR at a shop and it blew my head off! DEfinately one of the best browns sounds Ive heard but it seemed like thats all it did albeit did it amazingly
As for what I am searching for, I want a really good brown sound but also the ability to do a nice modern high gain. Quality is also a big factor for me too. Thats why the Cornford appeals to me so much, Completely PTP hand wired. Seems like its the way to go.

Sounds good. Let us know how it turns out.

$100 is totally worth getting to know an amp. Live with it for six months or so and then decide if you want something else. I'm sure you won't have a hard time moving something boutique like that. Everyone is throwing their favorites into the mix so I'll happily suggest an Orange Rockerverb 100 MK II w/DIVO tube management. I'm rockin' one and love it so effin' hard.

I was looking at the orange rockerverb heads but they seem to have a wicked mid emphasis in there. Could be that my local gc only had it running through the matching 1x12 though

why are you selling it? How is the QC on the heads, I know the US made wolfs are incredible(hint hint) but the heads are made in mexico. Im not totally against it but I tend to lean toward my stuff being isa made first, then germany and england( the big 3 so to speak

Has anyone ever tried the carvin legacy 3 amp I watched a few videos on it and it sounded pretty good and it's a decent price and USA made.

Well, it's British and mids are a big part of that sound. However, the head is VERY versatile. I play Dream Theater-esque tones all day long, metal all day long, classic rock, country, jazz, etc. Very versatile, in my opinion, and more so than most amps.

IMHO, the tone is in your hands. What is so wonderful about guitar, especially electric guitar, is the nuance an individual can coax out of it. The amp is nothing more than a vehicle to translate YOUR nuances. Better made amps are more musical and allow for some very subtle nuances to rise to the top, making your tone. SRV sounds like SRV on any amp he plays. Same with Hendrix or EVH. That's because they can control their playing to the Nth detail and you hear what they want you to hear.
Having owned many amps, I say choose the cleanest sounding amp you can live with. When I say clean, I don't mean get an amp without distortion or 2 channels, or etc. I mean listen for your mistakes. A really good amp makes you a better player because you can really hear all the details and you learn to play cleaner overall.
I play a Roccaforte Jenelle and it is hands down the best amp I have ever played, and everyone that plays it comments on how articulate it is...and how unforgiving. Trust YOUR ears and pick something YOU like. Nothing wrong with a Cornford.

any of you guys out there play a carol ann? Been researching like crazy and with friday quickly approaching( cornford will be on its way) I want to make sure Im getting the best bang for my buck. Ive been readin up on anything I can find about the hellcat and it seems like a lot of people say it lacks dimension. It also seems like a lot of people compare them to carol ann. I had never heard about this company until now but from what I've read and heard they seem pretty amazing.

For goodness sake, stop fretting!!! Get the Cornford and if you are one of the few that thinks it lacks dimension (wtf??) then flip it but if you are one of the thousands who swear by it then all is well... Only you will know for sure when you have a chance to play it. Fwiw some of the most raved about amps in the last twenty years have left me cold, just as ebmm's aren't to everyone's taste if you can believe it! However I believe that you are more likely to love the amp than not, but only you can make that call, don't leave it to Internet hearsay to make your mind up for you!
