I know this is the EBMM forum, but I trust the opinions of the folks who post here.

Has anyone tried or owns the new EVH 5150 III 50 watt mini? I am on the fence after trying it out this past weekend. From my short demo of the amp, I really like it. My only reservation is that channel 1 and 2 are combined and it's going to be difficult to get a nice clean sound and use channel 2 without turning down the volume on my EBMM guitar.

I suppose I could always bypass channel 1 and use an amp switcher to go to my Egnater Rebel 30 clean channel or Fender Princeton...

Anyway, just wanted some opinons, thoughts on the amp. I thought it sounded killer.

As soon as I saw the thread title I said "yes." You're surrounded by enablers. I had to leave this forum for a while because these guys were killing my wallet. :)
If you really like the amp, that pretty much says it all. Have you tried some of the others that were suggested here as well? As an amp is one of the biggest ingredients of your sound, you gotta find ones that really sound right to your ears.

TBH, i was not impressed with ANY of the 5150 line by EVH. At all.

Never played the EVH amps but I fired up my Peavey 6505 last evening, it had been months since the last time I played it and as usual, it put a huge smile on my face!

to the OP, if you are lucky, Peavey 6505/5150 can be found for cheap on the used market.

check out hughes and kettner dude(not their cheaper products that have flooded the market though) They are amazing amps both in sound and builld quality. They're pretty expensive new but highly underatted so you can pick them up fairly cheap on the used market. I just got their 3000 dollar duotone combo in excellent condition from gc for 1000. It blows the 5150 out of the water imho, but tone is subjective

The peavey 6505, and 5150 are great! They're closer to what EVH was sounding like when he rocked the SOLDANO SlO100. The new EVh series, just seems... I dunno, colder and a bit less organic.

So....

I Picked up the 5150 III mini with the matching 1x12 cab. So far I really like it although I haven't had much time to play through it yet. Channel 3 is simply amazing. Sustain for days yet very articulate and clean. Gain on that channel is at 9 o'clock and it's got crazy sustain already!

Mesa's controls are very sensitive and powerful. It takes a bit of time to really dial them in.

Very true, it's not simply adding treble or bass. But I guess you just have to like the Mesa-"growl". I have had an ENGL Blackmore, Hughes&Kettner Trilogy (which was awesome!), Marshall JVM410, Laney LC30, which were all incredible amps, but in the end it really comes down to liking the gain-structure. Well, at least to me :)
Now I have the TriAxis-2:90-G-system setup and with my JP7... I'm a very happy camper!

ANOTHER AMP QUESTION:

Does anyone else own an Egnater Tourmaster 412 cabinet? If so, can you recommend a good dust cover? I don't think Egnater offers one for the 4x12 cab.....
Thanks,
Kevin

I've thought the same about Mesa, way to fuzzy to me. But to each his own. :)
You oughta try the F50 - the clean channel is sublime, the second channel has a very controlable gain stage.
My preffered option is to drive the amp hard and turn it down via a mod to the effects loop. Just needs a modded jack to jack lead.

I'm really keen on getting an EP booster to drive the amp harder after listening to Jamie Humphries at a clinic the other week.- awesome tone.
The circuit is pretty easy and you could knock one up for $20.

Anyway, just my 2d on the Mesa contrib to this thread.

PS Rad - you gotta meet Jamie - he's a Star Wars fanatic!!

So far, I'm digging the Egnater Renegade 65. I haven't gigged with it yet, but I have much confidence. acwild gave me the hook up on pedals & it's sounding very nice. Great cleans & dirty goes from bluesy to metal with the twist of the gain knob.
