Hey

I'm looking to buy a decent valve amp, preferably around £750, but would be willing to spend up to £1000. I play a Gibson Les Paul Standard and an Ibanez RG550EX at the moment but will soon be getting a Musicman Axis. Can you guys recommend some models i should consider? I play mainly rock, blues, metal, jazz and a little country so an amp that can handle all of these would be great.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Where are you in the UK?

I have an Axis going through a Cornford Hurricane and it sounds great and you could easily get a mint 2nd hand one in that price bracket. The amp is not super flexible by some standards (i.e. one channel) but the tones are astonishing and I use a few pedals for on-the-fly sound changes so all bases are covered...

If you are local come over and try it out...

btw, Satch has a Hurricane in his studio....

Cheers for the responses. I'm living in Swansea.

I've been looking at Cornford amps and am very impressed with how they perform. I've also been thinking of stretching a little and maybe get an F50 combo, however the guy at this shop in London I visited was very anti-Mesa and said hes stopped selling them because besides Marshalls they are the amps he most frequently gets in his repair shop.

Anyone here had any problems at all with their Mesa amps??

With regards to the 5150, i did look for one of these but havent been able to find one anywhere to try one out!

I've had 5 Mesa amps and have found them to be extremely reliable. I'm lucky enough to say I've never had an issue with any of them. I've had an F50, 2 Mark IVs , a Stiletto and I currently have a Road King Series 2.

Based on your board name, I'm guessing you've considered the Peavey JSX?

I have one, and will NEVER part with it. It covers a LOT of ground very well, and is reasonably priced. 3 channels with switchable effects loop/ boost, uses EL34 or 6l6 power tubes, has bias test ports, active EQ, and it's really, really....shiny.:D

Just my .02$

It may not be exactly what you are looking for, and not a combo, but as soon as I get back to the UK I am buying an Engl Blackmore!
Clips can be heard here;

www.rocksolidamps.com

It is 4 channel and goes from clean to NASTY!

Just my .02cents, but I CANNOT wait to get back and buy one to go NUTS! :)

If you're interested in one why not contact Carvin and find some UK distributors, if they have them? Or maybe get them to direct-sell you one that will run off UK voltages?
