Hey, Board Buds -

When I played my gig this past sunday (first one with my new SR5), the sound of the onstage rig was awesome (we played a benefit so we used the equipment that was there). When I play through my Hartke 3500 and Fender 115 cab, it sounds, let's just say, not as rich or throaty. For about $500, what would you recommend? Is it the thin Hartke Head? Is it a lame $300 Fender cabinet? Should I look at a new head? A new cab? Thoughts on a nice combo?

Give it to me straight, fellow musicians...

I know a lot of people around here are Mark Bass fans. (I may be too, I just haven't tried them). My own personal experience lately would recommend Gallien Krueger. The prices are more than reasonable and I really love the tone. Specifically, just about any of the RB series heads will do. The super light MB2 gets great reviews although I have yet to try one. I am really looking at the new 2x10 combo they have paired with the MB2 head. I am thinking that combo would handle a lot of gigs and if you needed more then pick up an 8ohm extension cab like another 2x10 or their well regarded 2x12.

The GK stuff goes great with EB stuff IMHO.

Finding a good head and cab for $500 could be tough unless you scour the used market. As mentioned earlier, the cab should probably be the first to go.

Thanks all. I am going to bring my head and SR to my local shop and try a few new cabs. The 3500 is still a good head so I am thinking cab too. Thanks again all.
