Amp suggestions-help

I've got an avatar 1-15 cab and 1-12 cab that are great. Both handle lots of power. Each about 250. I picked up a used Eden Traveller, and it's all light and loud.

I also think the 2-10 vs. 1-15 depends on what you want. I like a more vintage sound with lots of bottom, and I'm happier w/ a 15 if I've only got one speaker.

Agree with mobay on the amp, the hartke 3500 is a great & reliable workinghorse that sounds pretty good for the price.

I now use ampeg cabs with my 3500, but I've also used it on peavey cabs and the result in sound was suprisingly good + peavey cabs rarely stops working (that's my experince anyway). Don't know 'bout the prize on ampeg vs peavey in your part of the planet, but ampeg is way, way, mucho, mucho more expensive than peavey is - in norway (where I live). So start on the budget amps and work your way up as you develop as a player and then sell your old gear when you buy new stuff. As time goes your gear develops with you and you end up being a gearwhore like the rest of us

Kinda funny you mention that. I have 2 Fender Bassman heads......a 350W & an 800W. The 800 is going thru an Ampeg 6X10 & the 350 is going thru a Peavey cab w/ 1X15 & 2X8's which I use for gigs that don't pay me enough to bring the bigger stuff.

Saturday night I played an outdoor gig with it and added my Mesa Boogie 4x10 diesel cab to it and it sounded like a big time rig.
My vote is for the Ashdown Mag series combo.

Thanks to all for the great advice. I went to my local music store and bought a Hartke 3500 and Hartke 410 cab, all new for $600 (in 1975 I paid $550 for my Kustom 150 guitar amp. Can anyone explain that?) Man that Bongo now sounds a lot better than through JamPlugs!!!

That's great! Which Hartke 410 did you get? The TP, XL or the VX.

I got a VX. What's the difference between the models?

The XL (my personal fav) is the traditional, aluminum-cone Hartke. It offers a tighter, punchier tone than paper, IMHO.

The TP series is a bit lighter in weight than the XL, marketed as their "transporter" series (lighter to travel with). The VL series uses paper-coned speakers for a warmer, more "traditional" tone.

I haven't ever played through the VX series cabs though I have been curious about what they sound like. I have owned a 410TP, a 115XL and a 210XL. As for the Behringer kickback amp, I haven't ever played one but I do own the Hartke Kickback 15 that makes a great practice amp for me.

Any eden amp world tour 8oo will give you the best mm sound ever add a 410 xlt cab put amp in bridge mode and play to your hearts content no better sound i run a world tour 800 for smaller gigs a WP100 pre amp plus powersoft digital with 2 x 410xlt cabs plus 1 x EAW 2x15 cab for bigger gigs clean and loud

ashdown

ashdown jsut came out with a mini rig
its a smaller full stack
2 15 inch speakers and a 60 watt head
ashdown are nice amps, though i have never heard this one
there only asking 267 , its def. worth to look at

I have an Ashdown ABM 500 EVO C210 and a 410 cab, It's great stuff. But I also just bought an old Ampeg B-18-N Fliptop, all tube amp. This thing kills, my SR5's low B string sounds like a million bucks, not real loud, but damn fat and thick!
I also use a SWR workingman series, and it's ok too, but nothing like the Ampeg or Ashdown.
