I have no problem buying stuff without trying. In fact I dont think any of the stuff I currently own was played before I bought it. I do lots of research and get a lot of opinions before making my decisions and I have been successfull in the past.

To go with my Stingray (on order), I have been researching rigs. Ampeg and Eden are my choices so far ... then I looked at GK today and noticed the the prices seem to be substantially less ... thoughts?

Anyone have experience with Genz Benz? The GBE 750 is appealing. How do they sound in comparison to all the aforementioned amps?

Gotta' Getta' Genz pretty much sums it up Fig. Given anything out there right now, I own two; Genz Benz and Aguilar. Life is a VERY good thing for Genz owners. The 750 has more tonal flexability that just anything that I've run into.

For those who also care about the company that they deal with, they're at the top of that mountain as well.

Can you describe the tone at all? How does it compare to the GK tone? Or the Eden tone?

I want a punchy amp, real fast, punchy slap tone too. Little growly too.

I also played a bongo again today. Not my thing either. So far GK nor Bongos are my thing. Sry andrew ;)

The Epifani still looks to be what i want. Pricey, yes but it is worth it, to me. Hopefully I can try one before long.

I'm very surprised at the lack of support for Mesa/Boogie... I've owned an Eden WT-400, GK (2000 RB), One of those new Fender Bassman 400 heads (sounded great but not enough power), Peavey, Yorkville, and I currently own an Ampeg SVT 5-Pro. The Mesa stuff seems to slaughter everything I've played or owned. Amazingly powerful and clear but they can get as gritty as you'd need. Especially the Big Block 750. Their cabs are awesome too. That Powerhouse 1000 with the 4x10's and the 15 in a very reasonably sized (and weighted) enclosure has me totally drooling. The GK was definitely one of my least favorite of those amps. It sounded so sterile and I just couldn't get a warm sound out of it. I haven't tried Aguilar but their prices seem pretty out of control. That DB750 or whatever it is costs like $3G's which even I can't justify spending on a head. Just my two cents but I'll be switching to Mesa as soon as possible.

Dang Fig. I played the UL210 and 310, and whatever their 610 was/is. They were great cabs, but dude the Bergs. Dont lose sight of the Bergs.

I had one of these for literally about 20 minutes then it blew up. smoke etc ... It sounded rad - tons of power. I fully beleive the blowing up thing was a fluke. It was the last olne in stock at my local shop and was pretty impatient so I got the SVT CL instead when I returned it.

The people at mesa were super cool tho. they called me on a weekend when theyre closed etc. I shoulda been patient and waited the week or so it woulda taken mesa to get me a replacement (not a repair). But I had sold my old head and i really just couldnt wait a week cuz I had gigs and reherssal lined up.

I wish i still had the mpulse ...

Figgy, if you'd care for me and Trav to make a few vidoes with the Berg, we can. Well, I know I can. But you know how Travis is. :p

We can run my GK through it and whatever head he gets next.

Yeah. I still owe you those videos. My parents just got back from their cruise yesterday so I now can use the camera to take the video. I'll hopefully get those done this week.

Damn straight billy, I'm using Aguilar AG500 at the mo, but for christmas I'll be getting myself a Bass400+, I love my AG but there's no warmth to it.

The other bass player I work with has a DB750 and it kills everytime, but it's just not my sound.

The Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout is what I currently use. It has plenty volume for anything I need to do. I love the sounds which come out of this combo but have to say that it has been beset with a problem. In fact, it is currently with the UK distributor for repair. This is the second time in recent weeks that I have had to send it back. The problem is that the volume comes and goes which ain't too good. If it wasn't for the tone of this thing and the fact that it is still under guarantee I would be seriously considering something else.

Btw i probably should go with the berg since i can get it in 8 ohm.. in case i wanted to pair it with something else later.

Judging by what everyone says about them, I wouldnt be too afraid of buying a berg without playing one. I trust you guys. :p
