I just passed my bass players house - saw his car on the drive meaning that he had got back from a 2 week camping holidy in France - I just had to stop and have a glass of wine:D

Anyway the WEM - I just love telling a story so here we go ...
Saturday morning I popped down my mate's workshop. He builds/repairs guitars and his business partner repairs amps/re cones speakers and fixes keyboards.
In the rear of the workshop is a small room which is being used by another amp tech. Anyway this amp tech is like a bloodhound when it comes to tracking down gear - he just sniffs it out and gets old gear very cheaply. Obviously he's not afraid to get anything that's "broke" cos invariably he can fix it.
He had the little WEM up for sale for £95. I asked if I could try it out and I fired it up using a SSS Strat type guitar. As I turned the volume up the sound was really creamy - not super distorted but it just broke up nice. He said he would do me deal .. he had got it for £65 had done a very small amount of work to it... ...
the amp has a power on/off on toggle switch and a separate standby switch on the volume control pot. The pot had given up the ghost and he had modded it =- but had not drilled any extra holes. He said that he would soon have the components to put it back to original.

Anyway he said that I could have it for £75 so have it I did! I'm picking it up in the week and will give it a thorough test drive.
For that kind of money it was a good investment and will be an interesting amp to play my balls through!!

.. Pink Floyd - yeah they certainly did use WEM gear and in my day you used to see a lot of it about - WEM pa's were de rigour and also the little WEM mixing desks out front.

He also offered me a 15" WEM speaker cab but I couldn't really use it so I passed on it.

So that's my WEM story ... I guess there must be a WEM forum somewhere? ;)

Back in 45 mins .. just have to take No2 son and his friends to a pub quiz. Watch this space!!!

Spud please do tell that thing is very interesting:cool:

Also I am going to sing the praise of the new Egnater Tweaker, super versatile, sounds great, I am very pleased finally, was going for the Mesa TA-15 but the Tweaker blows it out of the water for less than half the cost, plus Robbie hooked me up with a discount on it, gotta love GC customer loyalty:)

Here's some info on it
... ... Smaller 1960s and 1970s WEM amplifiers are undergoing a bit of a renaissance just now; they make great recording amps, and can be used live when mic'd or more than one is used. The WEM Dominator is a particular favourite, but the Clubman and Westminster also perform very well.

The Clubman is actually the smallest amplifier in the early seventies WEM range, supplying just 5 watts of power to a single 12" speaker. Despite this, it is still quite loud; probably louder than you'd expect from a 5 watt unit.

Tonally, this is a smooth, deep amp that sounds just amazing when cranked up, and the tone rolled off; just right for blues-rock soloing.

Very much depends on the sound I want or the sound my wife tells me I want
Either:
Boss GT8 into clean channel of Roland Cube 30X
or
for quiet practice (at my wife's request) Fender G Dec Junior 15 watt
or
when my wife & neighbours are out and not due home for some time, Orange Rocker 30 cranked up (but seldom above 4!!)

Wish I had a cool amp like the rest of you guys.

I still only have my 1987 (bought by me in 1987) Roland JC-120. However, I'm in love with it all over again now that I picked up this Line 6 M9 thingy.

I also run it with a Boss GT-8 or a Line 6 X3 Live depending on my mood...

For quiet practicing I use my Pandora PX4D or my Scholz Rockman X100. I keep hoping my Rockman will be worth something someday.

Just picked up a new Blackstar Venue 20 HT head to carry as a backup (don't leave home without one). Very nice sounding, plenty of versatility and great gain tones!

Hell, I'm a bit overawed by all you axe masters and yr gear.

I have a lowly Peavey Vypyr 30 in my music room (converted attic) with Sanpera 2 pedal and also a Roland Micro Cube RX in the spare bedroom where my computer gear is so I can twang while surfing the net too.

Maybe I'll just go get a big Engl stack set up and Morse Engl signature amp so I got Steves whole set up. Only difference then is Steve is a master and I'm a plonker.
Should ensure I get new neighbours if nothing else.

The Roland Micro Cube is capable of upsetting the household on its own.

Cheers

Hey!

I use my beloved Silo with something that's not even worth mentioning here, but I just got a chance of getting Framus Ruby Riot (I) for relatively attractive money.. There's very little on the net - do any of you have any Ruby Riot's? I'd love to know your thoughts on it.

I already tried it out (not in a band context though) and I was surprised how gainy the lead channel can be. I'd say too gainy for my taste, but why wouldn't I just turn the gain (there's master also) to 1/3 instead of full - it seemed to work fine for me then... I think I'll probably go for it and get the amp.
