Yes the G sounds different unamplified.

Its very noticeable on the 6th and 7th fret. You pluck and the fundamental decays very quickly, but the upper harmonic rings on.

I might try playing around with saddle heights and see if it makes a difference.

Fast forward to 2005. I find the old stingray hidden away in the shed and decide to give it a clean and buy some new strings (10 year old strings didnt sound so great!).

I'm sure EB will be able to help but what on earth was the Ray doing out in the shed?! Egads man! Send it in for some TLC..........stat!

Haha dont stress it was in a case. It's still in surprisingly good condition after everything it's been through. :D

Did you read my first post? There is a reason why I hid the bass away for a few years. :(

Yeah...just poking fun with ya'. What was the fret hand issue? Tendonitis? I broke my left wrist about 6 years ago and it's never been quite the same. Took a while just to be able to bend the wrist 45 degrees, let alone 90. Lost a bit of dexterity, about 10% so the doc said. I was 33 then, the bones and tendons just don't spring back when I was say, 15 or 20. Anyhow, take a look at Norm Stockton's website, he has some DVD's and vol 1 has a real nice section on Warming Up and how uber-important it is.

-Cheers
