hey

i had some bad news today... my application to get my first ever EBMM bass, a SR 30th on a finance plan (which allows me to pay a initial 25% deposit, take the bass home and pay the rest of interest free) was denied, and for what reason im not sure :(

I have the money to pay the 25% deposit and the first monthly payment. I have a job which ive had for nearly a year, at which im now earning around $600 a week (the weekly repayment was $87). I had good references and yet they denied my application and i dont know why

This is one of the only SR 30ths ive seen selling in australia and im paranoid that because now i have to raise the full amount by myself (which is ALOT of money over here in AUS) that some schmuck is gonna come along and buy it before i can

The only reason they gave me was that im in the high risk category as an 18yr old student, which i dont understand as they market their company to students who find it hard to get together money for an instrument.

i thought i was going to be able to order it this week-end :(

also would someone who has a SR 30th bass be able to give me a comparison between a SR30th and a regular stingray? Basically is it worth paying nearly twice the price of a regular SR for the 30th?

i do love the look of the 30th, but its not like regular SR's look bad, they look awesome, and if i didnt get a 30th, id probably get this bass:

but then again, this 30th looks so dman good!

so basically, is it worth paying nearly double the price of a regular SR purely for cosmetic reasons?

thats a bugger! dont know what you can do, other than wait for a while and try again, but the bass might be gone by then!

bass centre are a great shop, theyve even helped me find EBMM guitars a few times!

haha yeh thats the dilema i face, and i wouldnt be surprised if its gone before long, especially in the lead up towards christmas

Does the store offer a lay-by arrangement? That way, you can pay a deposit so no other fugger can buy it, and then you pay it off over a few months before taking it home. Worth asking.

Not in my opinion. If another bass plays as good, has the same sound I wouldn't pay double. I'd rather buy a 2nd bass with the extra money. Like a Sterling or a bongo or another stingray with dual humbuckers. :)

But of course, that's a decision you will have to make yourself.

The 30th does sound different. It's a more punchy sound. I think it cuts through even better than the standard Stingray.

Have you tried shopping around, even here in rip-off Britain the price was only a couple of hundred pounds more. I can't understand why it is double the price over there. I'm not sure it would be worth getting up to your eyeballs in debt for.

As has been suggested why not get one of the twin pickup models, or a Sterling or a Bongo. Doesn't matter really, they are all great basses.

have you played them side by side? it isnt purely cosmetic reasons. The growl is noticeably different on the 30th. Not the same beast at all in my opinion.

My 30th is the best, most aggressive Stingray I've ever owned.

The mahogany body really bumps up the low-mid punch-in-the-chest factor.

Cat,
Can't you buy one of the several used ones floating around on this forum?

Yes, the 30th sounds much different than a regular Ray, just as Bovine pointed out.
Also value wise, I'm looking at a long term investment if it's anything like the 20th Ray models. Haven't you noticed even after 5-10 years later, the 20th Ray is still worth more than double of a regular Ray made the same year?
The price has now been justified.

Anothe solution of course is to not use in-store financing. They are often a rip-off anyhow.

If you are gainfully employed, you probably already have a bank account. You could approach your bank and ask for a personal loan. Then just take the money over to the music store and buy the 30th. Heck, with CASH in hand, I bet you could even negotiate a discount on the sale price.

i've got one for 1250 plus shipping.

you're gonna pay out the nose for shipping, but it should still be cheaper....

hey, ive been thinking about this bass aot and i think ive decided that its probably a bit too expensive, considering that for the price of the 30th i could get a regular SR in the configuaration in the pictures on the previous page, and could also afford to get a Mark Bass 104HR cab at the same time. So i reckon ill go for the SR+mark bass. i do love the look of the SR30th, but its too expensive over here, and i could always sometime next yr find one from these forums or ebay that would ship to australia.

thanks again guys!

It's hard to go wrong with decisions like this.

Hmm, a SR4 or a SR4 30th? Toss a coin, you're still going to win!

From one Newcastle inhabitant to another, I think you made the right decision.

However, check out the Bongo. That is a fantastic bass, especially if you can play it(like Bassmonkeee!).

Bah, just when i had decided to go with the SR+mark bass combo, the guy from bass centre tells me he can put the 30th away on layby for me and that i can get a discount if i pay with cash.

oh well, i guess this is one that ill just have to think about carefully for a little bit, and its like bovinehost said, either way its a win-win situation :D
