I guess it depends on how much you look at your neck when you play and how well your ears are trained. I play upright also and have had experience with other fretless basses so I don't think too much about it. Running the modes and other exercises will help get your fingers and your ears sink up with the fretless. Since you have some experience it shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I have played a little upright, and I think my ear is pretty good; still the fretless is a different animal... Well, I'll just be playing it around the house for a while, so my dogs will let me know if its in tune

Well they ARE both male, but they have both been fixed, so no leg humping. They do howl and bark somethimes when I play loud late at night. They are both hounds, so they have really good ears, and hounds are reputed to have perfect pitch; so I'll put them to work
