I voted for Ampeg, but I play through several amps.

My rigs are:

- '69 Ampeg SVT blue line & '73 SVT 8x10 fridge
- '67 Fender Dual Showman & Epifani 2x12
- Eden WT-400 & LDS 5x8
- Ampeg SVT IIp preamp & Crest LT1000 power
- Genz Benz GBE250C 1x12 combo

I need a nice rig. All I have for a gigging amp is a Fender BXR-200 combo. It has some punch to it, but not a lot of personality. My basses sound much better going through my SWR California Blonde!

Gallien-Krueger 1001RB-II-->Gallien Krueger Neo 2x12 and 1x15.

The StingRay 5 (and EBMM basses in general) KILL through GK stuff. Its a special combo.

Big rig:

Alembic F1X->Stewart 2.1->Bergantino HT310

Small rig:

As of today (timely thread!), Euphonic Audio Iamp 800->Acme B2 (4 ohm)

The Iamp 800 replaces a Trace Elliott 130 GP7 head I've used for almost a decade now...

BTW, I played the MAG210 for a bit, and it is an impressive cab! Wish I had held onto it!

That's the cab I use and yes, it is an awesome cab which handles low B pretty well (and actually better than many higher-end cabs).

My friends are all amazed about the tone I have according to the price I paid (less than 700 EUR for the whole rig, brand new !).

Though, I want "real warmth" now. I am actually thinking of going back to what I had (and loved) 20 years ago : all-tube SVT, but my mind stays open to any alternative solution (such as, i.e., SVT-3PRO).

Cheers
Jay

Could we have a mod sticky a pic of this rig? It's got to be exhausting to have to post it in every amp thread. ;) :D

Working on getting this exact same rig. I already have the 1001RB-II. So I, of course, voted GK. I'm using a Hartke 4 10 I borrowed until I get the Neo 2 12 and i'll be so glad when it's gone. :D

Alembic F1X Preamp, QSC 2402 Power Amp (just one side), Aguilar GS410 (4 ohm/700 watt cab.) I like the sound with my 1978 Stingray. Punchy, clean, LOUD if I want, not too heavy. What else can I say. :)

Playing through a MarkBass Little Mark head and a MarkBass 410 right now ;thunderously loud; but there's this Aguilar feeling lurking I think :cool: , won't be getting rid of the MarkBass though, it smokes, the Aggie would merely be an addition

I know the French importer of MusicMan and Ampeg (we were in college together 30 years ago), but he's offered me nothing.

I just sold my Ampeg SVT 4 PRO and ordered an Ashdown ABM 500 EVOII head. I play through Bergantino Audio Systems cabs. They are the finest cabs I've ever had the pleasure to play through. I have their new 2x10 and 1x12 stack that simply rules. I plan on using the Ashdown when I want a more old school sound but in the next few months I'm going to buy a MarkBass Little Mark II(500 Watts only 6 lbs!!!) for a more modern sound when needed. There should be an Ashdown option in this pole. :cool: For what it's worth I chose the Ashdown over the Aguilar AG 500 head after A/Bing them with my bongos.

The fact that this poll talks only lists amp heads rather than rack mounted preamp/power amp rigs is interesting, probably reflecting demographics.

I voted "other". I run a Demeter VTBP-201s preamp into a Yamaha P4500 power amp.

I guess I get to say that I run an Ernie Ball Audiophile Amp :D
The jury is still out on which cab I will use.

What is his name? We must speak to this man! He OWES you SOMETHING, does he not? Is he French? Is he rude? We will fix this, I assure you!

Or, ahem, maybe not.

Well, I had a Sansamp/QSC setup a while back and it really did smoke. I like the old-school warmth of the Sunn a bit better, although that Sansamp RBI was a great preamp, especially considering what it costs.

Cabinets are so subjective, and possibly the greatest tone-modifier after your bass (and your brain and fangers, okay, okay).

I like Ampegs. Edens sound too wooly. I'd like to try some of these other cabs you guys are discussing, to be sure, but they're so hard to carry around.

As of the now the poll suggest that most use something other than the run of the mill amps.

It should suggest that it don't make a difference what amp you plug an EB bass into it will rock the house. Most of the time it will be capable of bringing down the house.

IMHO

As Jack said, you're dead-on with that analogy. My B4 HS makes my niece's 30w Drive amp sound bigger than it is!
