Hey forumites,
I just wanted to share my last impression of my wonderful Tobacco Burst Morse Y2D. I have been playing guitar for 16 years now but today was the first time I took the opportunity to jam to my favourite tunes with the guitars I collected over time (not all are EBMMs, thare's also a Godin Artsian ST for example or the former Petrucci model of a Japanese brand). And the winner soundwise as well as feelingwise is clearly my Y2D. It is a pure soundmachine!! So rich and clear, powerful yet refined - no other 6 String guitar (my JP7 didn't take part in this competition) coud reach the high bar, the Y2D set. The Godin came in close 2nd in terms of playability, but its finished neck is a total turnoff wo me since I laid hands on the waxed and oiled EBMM goodness. Another thing I noticed is, that the Y2D makes me play things, I never played before. It seems highly inspirational to me. Has anyone made similiar experiences?

I also have a Darklord incoming, I can't wait to give it a ride in comparison!!

Cheers
Matthias

I have the same problem... once i pick up a EBMM guitar, I keep thinking that i should sell my other guitars (Fender, gibson, PRS, Ibanez) and fund other EBMM guitars...actually sometimes i think i only should have EBMM guitars

I think everybody here has the same experiences about this.
Every of my guitars (EBMM and non-EBMM) inspires me to play different. But I almost always come back to the EBMMs because of their feeling, playability and sound. Every now and then I enjoy to play my other guitars because different inspirations. but they all have weakeninge the EBMMS don´t have.

When I first got my Morse I thought it makes me a better player but I think it had to do with the fact I played and practised a lot more with this killer guitar!

I can tell you, being relatively new to the EBMM fold, that this DOES seem to be happening. I can't stop buying!!!

And a Morse Y2D is on my list!!! (a short list)

Yes, I just got my PDN Y2d about a month ago, and I absolutely have come to adore this machine. My 25th still gets the #1 attention, but its a whole different beast. I do a whole lot more cleans on the 25th but the Y2d is a veritable (blues)ROCK machine.

It's definitely getting easier to part with my Silo now that I have the Y2d because position 3 with just that lowered single coil is perhaps one of the coolest things EVER on a guitar. I get the wonderful tones of the HH but man, that single is just at the RIGHT position and at the right height. Takes off just enough gain and has all that simply superb single coil-like clarity. It's a insta-rhythm channel or single coil throwback. I haven't found a way to make it work for a clean channel with my rig, but man, it does the dirty thing WELL. And I mean WELL!

I think a lot of us, and myself included, started playing guitar as a teen and could only afford one budget axe that would last us a while. And with that you'd be playing all your gigs with one guitar. For me personally, there's tremendous value in a axe that can do multiple things, and DO THEM WELL. Which is why my 25th is #1, but also why the Y2D is becoming such an awesome part of my arsenal.

Enjoy that axe, more time = more love!

yeah, I got to spend even more time with my axe...

@Scooby: yeah! the good old days with the first quite inexpensive guitar! But the enthusiasm back then... No thinking about which one would suit the song or performance best, just taking it out to play with the band or going crazy jamming at home - good times! :)

@razzle: I know what you mean. A year ago I got my Y2D. Meanwhile I added two more EBMMs to the family. Don't know how, but it just kind of happened :)

Today was not only NGD but also Darklord Day... I may have to revise the thread title. This piece of musical craftmanship is amazing. The neck is incredibly silky and smooth. I also really dig the fatter profile. I don't want to play anything else at the moment... Can't wait to put in front of my amp at band practice :)

Welcome to the Forum, Matthias.

Scooby Steve: I love the single coil on my Morse, too. It's a new sound added to my arsenal.

@all: Thanks for the congratulations and warm welcome.

And most of all thanks to richb who made the transaction smoother than smooth. Great guy!

@joe_web: yeah! I saw your darklord in the Live Picture area! A really nice one and I'm sure it sounds killer with the Mesa. And by the way: Really nice collection you got yourself there. That's a high bar in collector's terms :) I can't say yet if I prefer the DL to the regular Y2D. Usually I play .10s and the DL bears a .09 gauge at the moment, which to me didn't feel right on on the regular one but here it's quite ok. But in the next days I will put .10s on the darklord to have a fair comparison. On the first day the smooth feel of the neck is just overwhelming to me. And I seem to like the fat neck even more than the regular one. But maybe that's just the first impression. Come to think of it, maybe sometime in the future a darklord come together and jam along could be a nice idea... as there don't seem to be so many EBMM enthusiasts in the south of Germany :)

cheers guys!

Since you have both, do you notice any tone difference between the DL and the Y2D? Primarily I ask because I think the only real tonal difference between the two should be the pickup covers and I've hear they can make a big difference.

Here in my practise environment at home (POD I into Roland Cube 40XL) they sound exactly the same, whereas you can tell a noticeably difference to my other guitars. Don't know if they sound still the same plugged in an 100W tube head.

Maybe joeweb can also tell us his experience as he owns both models longer than I and maybe even has them compared in studio or live?

to me the DL sound fatter as the regular Y2D, maybe it because of the wider neck. a fat neck makes a bigger tone, just as simple as it is.
but on the other hand my purple sunset and my de-purple burst sound different as well (both are tremolo versions and both made within 3 month - so the used wood has a lot to do with tone.

even my dargie II sounds different from my other JP6s....wood is a natural product and this is the reason why they all sound a bit different.

to nail it down, the Dark Lord is a killer guitar with a lot of punch and rich tone - i like it. :)
