Another big thank you to EBMM (photos now added)

Well, after my post saying I was cancelling my Axis order (Pacific Blue Burst, matching head, premium quilt) my guitar store (GuitarGuitar in Edinburgh) decided to keep the order and get it in for shop stock. As I ordered it, they called me up when it arrived to at least let me see it before it went to their new Newcastle store..

...and now I own it :D

Couldn't help it. The house moving proved a little less expensive than we anticipated thanks to our folks financial help...and what else are credit cards for! Had to chop in the Boss GT6 to finance the last part of the deal but I don't think I'll miss it. It came down to changing amps or the GT6 as the AVT150 and it really hated each other  Love the AVT...so bye, bye GT6.

And hello gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous Axis :D I'll get photos up soon but yet again you guys outdo yourselves. The thing was even in tune when it arrived! Setup took a 1/2 turn off the truss and raise the bridge by 1/8 turn to get rid of buzz and it was perfect! Oh, and I discovered the high E was a guff string. Of course I spent an hour swapping locking nuts and cleaning the nut thinking I had a serious problem before deciding to be less clever and just putting a new string on....DOH.

So now the Carbon Blue Luke has a new blue buddy and I'm in second EBMM heaven. Thanks for making the best damn gitars on the planet folks

Oh, and quick question....what string set does the Axis ship with...feels like 9-46 rather than the Luke's 9-42? Also, what kind of action (height wise) do most people achieve without buzz, just to see if my setup is OK?

Axis: Super Slinky (9-42) catalog #2223....This is wrong. They are RPS also, however we cut the ball end off so it is a moot point

Weird: after I visited the ofoto album, the inline images that you put in became visible! I'm guessing ofoto uses some strange caching scheme, you might want to find some other place to host you pictures.

Nice Axis Ali. Love the finish. How does it compare playability and soundwise to your Luke?

Hard one that. Sound wise, the harmonics really leap off the Axis whereas the Luke needs some persuasion. The Axis does have a high output but "scooped" sound to it that really is every bit EVH. It also sounds far brighter than the Luke in clean, but it's more "in your face" in that sense. The Luke's a subtler beasty and far more adaptable to different styles. Much like their endorsers I suppose! I'm glad I have the Luke as the Axis really wouldn't satisfy all my needs. It's very much the Ferrari that sits in the garage waiting for the owner to be in the right mood for it, whereas the Luke is the BMW M5...capable of the same performance, far more usable and versatile and the one you use more, but with a little "edge" and attitude missing from it.

In terms of playability...the Luke wins for me. I much prefer it's neck. That said,I've only owned the Axis for 5 days and the Luke for 4 months so it's an unfair comparison. Both are a hundred times better than the Jem and Universe they replaced though :D

If they both got stolen, I'd replace them both. If I had money for one...I'd buy two secondhand. I just love them both equally but in different ways.
