Hey BP,

years ago, I read acouple of good books about starting / running a good business, and eventually came to one remark by a successful entrepreneur that " if he knew when he started what he eventually came to know, that he may not have started out on his own

In particular, I recall one tale by a local businessman(from his autobiography), who's considered to be one of the most successful (wealthy)independent and self-supported businessmen in Canada
; he tells about his "darkest" moment, when the "Eastern Establishment gang"got nervous about him and talked among themselves and had enough economic and community power to have his bank financing frozen and there came a time when he was really scratching and had concerns about feeding his family ... eventually, he overcame the OLd Boys politics and made new arrangements, and is now high on the list of "consultants and inspirational speakers for various corporations ...

my :Q" for today has to do with how you and EBMM have faced tough obstacles and risen to the present high place of success and public esteem ... Have you faced dark moments when even you began to doubt your own staying power and how was it that you managed to endure and keep a positive attitude and remain the guy of the company, that strikes fear in the hearts of the Big business boyz, that everyone wants to be like and can't figure out "how you do it"?

UIn other words, "What's your secret of success"?
Thanx Eh?ATB,
/PL:)

OH gosh...golly and poo I have no idea. Yeah there have been some interesting times. I think the best thing you learn in less than optimal conditions is to stay steady......That is when you earn your money. Anybody can panic. The second is to not allow yourself to dwell on all the ghosts of all that can go wrong. Figure out your exit plan or strategy for the bad stuff and stay focused and calm.

I have read somewhere that it costs a company 10x more to get a new customer than to keep an old one. (maybe it was 100x?) Regardless, the key is keeping the customer happy so that he will come back... and hopefully bring friends!

On the money

Hey BP, Thanx once again, you hit the nail right smack on the head, as usual, this was exactly the type of reply I was hoping forAlthough I've never run my own business with my own money, I've managed some standalone situations for employers and hit a few speed bumps and survived and overcome by the principles you're referring ... my fave remark has been, "OK kidz, now, is not the time to panic, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"!:eek::)
ATB,
