I love all the EB's that I've played, but the BFR JP's are my favorite. I can't play anything else now, and I find myself digging the painted necks more than the maple. So I guess its BFR's that I prefer.

I have both a regular and BFR AL - which one do I prefer.....

Both,

I bought my non BFR AL used, I think the only realy way you could answe this is go to a shop and buy one of each (same config) and play them both for a period of time,

The BFR is amazing, but the regular models are equally amazing....

I'm not knocking vanilla. Vanilla bean ice cream is heavenly. But as far as shakes go, chocolate will win every time.

I think BP is right. I can't say I have enough experience with them to make a decision. The only real answer I can give is this: In the long run it doesn't really matter which I choose as long as it's the right one for me.

For me right now, it's 25th all the way. I know it doesn't exactly fit the question, but to me it's like a BFR++

Like many here, I love all EBMM's. But, I REALLY like the BFR's. I sold my regular JP6's and now have 2 BFR JP6's...one in blackburst and one in walnutburst. I also have an Axis Super Sport Rosewood top/neck and a Sub1.

Tonal qualities don't have to be the only deciding factor.

The only Standard vs BFR model I've been able to play on a daily basis side by side is a standard JP (despite the fact that it was a RW Neck) and a BFR JP.

So for the other BFR's I cannot say.

But the arm scoop and unfinished neck is a physical quality, not a sonic or tonal quality, that I prefer over the BFR. As I've mentioned before I've moved to JP's after years of playing a Les Paul Std. and their finished mahog necks. And simply put I have no desire to go back to it. My situation may not be shared by many here (I know you might know what I'm talking about Brad) but going from a LP Std to JP is as big as a change as it could be.

Temperament and mentality by association is a powerful thing when it comes to any motor function involving repetition and becoming accustomed to features. (Particularly instruments)

After feeling a much more refined and liberating neck in an unfinished neck I was vehemently opposed to a BFR JP because of the finished neck. (Please note this is no disrespect to the BFR features) It's a small detail, but each individual has their individual temperaments, and to put in a simple sentence to answer a rather complicated subject:

I do not like finished necks, and it is enough of a factor for me to prefer one option to another.

Definitely not. I know you're not saying otherwise, but the 25th is a beautiful guitar, both tonally and aesthetically. It's like a BFR++ It has the feel, the mahogany tone block, the killer figured top, plus it has extra switching, plus it has a chambered body.

That's just one of the comparisons to make, though. There's still the Axis, ASS, AL, Luke, and Silhouette which have their BFR counterparts. And none of them have finished necks.

I'm partial to unfinished necks, too, but I can play either an unfinished or painted neck comfortably.

Like I said clearly before I wrote, my post is LIMITED ONLY to the JP's because I've had no extensive experience (and some none) with other Standard EBMM's and their BFR counterparts.

I can play a finished neck too, I've been doing it for eleven years, but I just don't like it. For it's about obtaining the qualities that I would prefer. After all I am spending a lot of money on a guitar.

It's a simple thought process for me: I like unfinished necks, so I should buy a guitar with an unfinished neck. It's pretty simple really.

It all boils down to the mannerisms each individual goes to when it comes to purchasing a guitar. Does one look for a guitar which suits their preferences? Or does one compromise their personal preference to obtain an instrument that will suit their musical preference?

As I must reiterate, there's no right answer, and neither am I endorsing the Standard to the BFR. It's just one man's opinion to another man's opinion.

In the end, I just like the Standard more than the BFR. And it really is as simple as that.

The thing is ... most of us instinctively want the "new thing", even without knowing much about it. BFR, new model, updated pickups on an artist model, etc. ... there's a mad rush to want the latest and greatest thing.

How many times have we said (or read) "this one's a keeper!", only to see it sold off shortly thereafter. I find it takes a while for reality to trump enthusiasm, and so the guitars that really are keepers are the ones I still have when I'm long down the road.

What's "better" is so subjective.

Love em all although a BFR is all I have at the moment. Of course, that used Mystic Dream JP BFR with rosewood neck that Pete has up for sale is causing GAS pains!!

+1....tried them both back-to-back at GC and actually like the JP6 over the BFR JP6. I don't mean to knock the BFR JP6 because I think it's very very nice, but I'd spend my money on the JP6 over the BFR.

Edit: That's the only BFR model I've tested to date.

Guilty as charged Beej LOL:D

In all seriousness have to agree with your last staement it is very subjective.

This is a silly thread. Most that are answering dont have much experience.

Co you prefer chocolate or vanilla?

It is kinda silly BP, have to agree, and it is chocolate for me:p

All joking aside I will throw my 2 cents in since I do have, "ahem" some experience:)

All EBMM guitars are great, period ( insert fanboi jokes here ) like Beej said very subjective and a matter of personal preferences, so here goes,

JP-much prefer the standard model to the BFR, I do not deal with painted\sealed necks very well and something about the standard body feels better to me.
Luke- like them both period. End of story
AL- Well again like them both still own a standard AL but the BFR version is one of the best guitars ever, if my elbow heals and funds allow will have another oneday, all in all have to say I do prefer the BFR here overal
Silo- well no brainer for me here, Gold Roller BFR all the way
Axis Super Sport- Love the both, standard or BFR great guitars

Bottom line get a EBMM be happy:D

So after quickly skimming all the posts, is my understanding correct that with the purchase of a new BFR, we also get a lifetime supply of chocolate???

hahaha....

I have only tried a few BFR's but do understand that there are different BFR's. Some are standard guitars with a rosewood neck. Some are complete package BFR's. Some are exotic wood BFR's. I've only really only understood this recently and am convinced that the only way "I" can tell for sure is the price tag. I've played a rosewood neck BFR ASS that I now believe is BFR because it has a rosewood neck. The price was within $200 of the standard guitar....thus my assumption there. Also played a rosewood neck Luke that Pete had (which I liked) that had a painted body but rosewood neck and was labeled as a BFR (I think) but came with a regular case. I also played a KOA BFR Luke that's still at DuBaldo's that has a finished neck. I'd have to fall in love with that neck. The price tells me it's a full blown BFR. It's also the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen.

Which do I like better?........I certainly am not qualified to give a generalized answer. I could tell you which particular guitar I liked better and why.

The 20th Ani Silo is an amazing guitar with the tone block and an AMAZING quilt top, with birdseye neck, and the tone is absolutely sick. But I cant put down my "regular" Silo Special. What does this mean? Not much, as I love both guitars for their different qualities. Both are EBMMs with the SAME exact quality and craftsmanship...same goes for all the other BFRs and production models. I like whatever sounds and feels good to ME. I am really looking forward to a BFR Silo Special, but this does not mean necessarily that I will like it better than my current production Silo Sp.
