OK so my son is nutso over Lady Liberty, and my wife wants to plan a trip to the Big Apple...so I would appreciate...no I would LOVE it if you guys can help me in any way. First off is it still open for viewing, the Statue that is (post 911)? Secondly, where is a reasonable place to stay(remember Canadians are already at a loss money wise). Now most importantly and to make this an acceptable thread....where are the really good EBMM dealers in NY? :D Thanks!

Hahahahaha Sounds like fun. Well I know that Royal has a ton of guitars, but remember they don't deal.

Many people I know stay across the river in secaucus, NJ and take the bus or train in to the city. NYC can be very expensive to stay in. I wouldn't drive in if you have a car. Parking can kill ya too. Also if the Statue of Liberty is open, you can get to her from NJ at Liberty State Park if I'm not mistaking. But there isn't any experience quite like staying in the heart of NYC.

Well that was helpful i think

Just kidding...I guess now that I think of it I have watched enough episodes of Seinfeld to appreciate the difficulties in parking :D

I live in Northern NJ & work accross the street from the WTC Site. I believe that the Statue of Liberty is still open for viewing. I commute in from Jersey City where there are a number of ferries that will take you into Manhattan. You may want to look into staying there. The PATH train to the WTC will take you into ground level so you can view that site as well.

As far as guitar shops I usually go to 48th st. between 6th & 7th Ave. They have a good grouping of music stores there i.e. Manny's Music, Sam Ash, & Rudys (more high end guitars). Also there is a decent size Guitar Center on 14th St Union Square & they are pretty cool about letting you try gear. The high end stuff you have to ask to try. They usually have a few EBMMs & some EBMM SUBS.

Feel free to email or PM me if you want detailed info on getting around NYC or Northern NJ.

Wow thanks! Man are you saying that some stores won't let you try out the gear?

Hey Raz - here's a link with info on the Statue of Liberty

http://www.bigapplevisitorscenter.com/pisl.htm

Hope it's helpful

With respect to staying in the city, it's represented by every major hotel chain as well as numerous smaller boutique and neighborhood hotels. You could check the major chain websites for deals or specials when you want to travel.

Among the smaller hotels the Beacon is an upper west side neighborhood hotel which is attached to a concert venue - the Beacon Theater and you may be able to catch a show depending on their schedule. ( i.e this is the place the Allman Brother's usually do a dozen or so shows every year) Although I must disclose in fine print that I have had business dealings with the Beacon

Not much in Manhattan with respect to EBMM - Rudy's on 48th St. carries basses but no guitars in stock. zyx mentioned some of the other shops. There are also several little boutique shops in the village and lowr east side with some interesting vintage and non-EBMM selections (Ludlow / Matt Umenov) Huge GC on 14th Street has SUBs and Basses but other stock is hit and miss. Royal is out in Brooklyn.

Good Luck and enjoy the visit

On my last visit to New York City, I stayed at the Milford Plaza Website

Not the best hotel in the world, but quite cheap, and 1 minute walk from Times Square. Also its walking distance to Mannies (and Rudy's). Mannies had a few EBMM's for sale, and Rudy's had one I think.

The prices, being a Brit, did make me very tempted! But alas my Visa stayed in my pocket!

Most stores will let you try gear but some will watch you like a hawk or try to sell you on it agressively. If you go on a Saturday or Sunday expect it to be a zoo in there. Try to get to the Guitar Center or Sam Ash on a weekday if possible.

Back when I was into PRS guitars, I walked into the Guitar Center on 14th St. one day after work & they were literally handing me PRS guitars to play. They left me alone to play until I was done & handed it back to get another. I ultimately bought a Custom 22 but sold it after I got my EBMM Petrucci!!

Ha!!!!!!! I can see how I confused you a bit. Trying to say alot in just a few sentences.

Basically, commute into the city using mass transit to save some money. If you have a car and want to use it, be careful because parking is extremely difficult in that there isn't any or very limited and the parking lots are expensive. If ya got cash to burn stay in the city. Sometimes you can find a deal (hotel) at a decent price. My experience has been they (hotels) are expensive and if it's cheap, it's a dump. Hope that helps. I would stay with Pete!! :D :D :D

Raz, are you driving down or flying?

I'm a 2 hour drive north east of the city :p
I'll make you a deal...sure I can go and give some hotel money to stay there, but perhaps this money can be put to better use, somewheres else...

Man you guys are the best...I keep telling people to buy EBMM's not only for the build quality and whatnots, but also for the forumites :D

I'm gonna check out some of these links...dang if my wife knows I put in this much effort, hey I might get some :D

Raz I live on 34th street and 3rd ave, thats the east side of NYC, anyway you should go to expedia and travelocity and look for hotels that are near time square, its a good touristy spot and there are lots of things to do day and night, you will also be close to 48th street which is where all the guitar stores are, and mannys does have MM. guitar center is downtown on the east side, so it will be a cab ride or subway. Royal music is in LI about 40 minutes from manhattan so oyu wont be going there. If you want some ideas of things to do while your in NY or where to go PM me and I will be more than happy to give you some ideas, You need to hit downtown as well because thats where the history of NY and all the cool shopping is, and since your a musician youll like the vibe down there - russ

Hey guys- just wanted to thank you for the advice to Raz's question :D

I was in NYC last week and spent a lot of time (away from work ... but don't tell anyone ...) cruising the guitar stores.
