Going to be in the market for a new bass in the next few days, and with my budget, the S.U.B. Stingray is looking pretty damn good to me!

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this line.

Thanks!
James

Nice basses :) For the price... very nice--especially the active EQ version.

I know that at least one of the online retailers is discontinuing the line.

Is EBMM discontinuing the line, or is it just the relationship between the retailer and EBMM being severed?

If it's the former, I'd better haul ass to get the finish I want (red)!

I really like my SUB. I find it complements my Stingray as it has a tone all of its own. Yes, it is unmistakeably Stingray-like but tantalisingly different.

Here's mine.

I have SUB Stingray and a SUB Sterling. I love them both. I am not really into the Stingray neck so I bought a used fixer upper SUB SR and I really dig the tone on it with the 2 band EQ. But I don't play it as much as the Sterlings.

(PS: I have a B/W/B pickguard coming UPS today for my SUB Sterling. I'm psyched!)

Eh gawd, will you stop posting that gorgeous bass. Everytime I see it, I kick myself for not buying a SUB Sterling fretless I saw at a guitar show. Please, just stop. ;)

Yeah... there was a SUB 4 fretless on Ebay a couple of days ago that I was very close to buying. I emailed the owner... himmed and hawed... thought about it... debated over the price... and then POOF, it was gone. I'm sure I'll be kicking myself soon. Actually, I already am...

Note to self: next time, don't d**k around. BUY!

That fretless is nice!

So, what's the story on why they're discontinued? Seems like a great market for those who can't quite nick a full-fledged Ray or Sterling.

Maybe it's just not appreciated until it's gone.

Hmmm IIRC, the SUBs were offered to be low cost, made in USA basses that r0x0r3d. The first point was nixed when the price increases came about. One option was to move assembly out of the US, to China or something, but that would also defeat the purpose of the SUB. So rather than do all that, EBMM decided to discontinue the line.

It's really sad to see the line end, but there were very good reasons on EBMMs part. I love the look and playbility of the SUBs and probably would have had one if it weren't for the Dargies. And wot with the 07 LEs and (potential) BFRs, I dunna if I'll be able to anytime soon!

One should be perfect, as it is a fantastic Musicman for a price I can actually afford, except they only come with rosewood fretboards, and I would much rather be able to get a maple one :(

awkward sod ain't I...

(looking for a secondhand Sterling now, just still weighing up the risks of buying from the US...)
