What model dya have and how does it compare to the likes of a Mesa Boogie Dual Rec. or the roadking? I'm still looking at different amps. Still sort of leaning towards a Dual Rec or a Roadking. But I do like the way Soldano's sound. They don't seem quiet as wooly.

I had an 18 watt Soldano Astroverb head, which was a nice amp, very well made and tight sounding. Most definitely gig-able for small rooms. But, it sounded nothing at all like a Mesa. I sold it cuz it wasn't my sound, nor is any EL84 amp I've ever played. But as quality goes, it was right up there.

I've got an SLO-100 w/ Soldano 4x12 and love it. When I bought it I had the opportunity to play it alongside a Dual Rectifier and Marshall DSL (JCM2000?).

The Marshall sounded a bit too vintage and just plain buzzy for my ears, while the Mesa sounded very sterile and harsh on the top end. I spent about 45 minutes or more with both amps going back and forth trying to get a tone I was happy with. Then the salesman told me he had a used SLO-100 in the back if I wanted to try that. Of course I said "yes."

When I plugged into the Soldano, it was full, warm, and gave me the tone I heard in my head from the first chord that I played through it. I used that particular SLO for about a year before I special ordered up a new one from Soldano with the 1/2 power and Depth mods. I haven't looked back since - much like my experience with MusicMan guitars. I've found something that I'm happy with, and suits my needs to a T.

Feel free to drop me an email if you've got other direct questions about the Soldano line.

Get down to Sounds Great and play with them.

I happen to prefer the Cornford Mk50-II but they have the SLO100 + others, plus Dual Recifiers. You might also consider the Custom Audio's.

Ok too much choice I know. There are some great amps in that price range

I am a fan of the Soldano as well as many many others. I have to agree with the previous mentioning of the Cornford. Very nice amp and I am happy with mine.

Pete, to your knowledge, does SLO make or ever have made a 6L6 bluesy amp under 100 watts? The ones I've heard seem to be very quick responding, not the "saggy" blues type of thing.

Candid -
When I looked through this thread I checked out the Soldano site and it doesn't seem to reference the tubes. I did some googling (is that now a word?) and found an interview with Mike Soldano in guitar amplifier magazine. - He says he uses Sovtek 5881's for all 50 and 100 watt amps and has since Philips 6L6's went out in the 80's. EL84's are in the Astro verb. The Avenger also has a EL34 option. He also prefers th JJ ECC83S for high gain apps.

Hope that helps
