I don't drive.

Ah, perhaps I was your driver, then, since I do have some memory of this event, and had popped into the men's room to buy some birth control devices. Hey, that nasty redhead behind the bar wasn't that nasty.

That was last night and I feel that it was a really good talk. The problem is I now have to buy more beer at the open house now.

Yes, it was, as were the few we had today today. I also had great conversations with Scott Ball and Dan McPherson about setting things up...all very helpful, efficient and friendly but most of all surprisingly much cooler and down to earth than I had anticipated from such a large and established manufacturer such as EMMM. I'm just one dude in a garage in the desert and EBMM deals with all the huge retailers. BP doesn't need my sales...LOL!! I'd be lucky if the profit off my annual sales would cover a half of what this shindig he's putting on next month is gonna cost him out of pocket.

It's not about the money for BP to have extended this olive branch and lay a golden opportunity at my feet so generously! We do both share the passion about doing what we do in the bass community. We also both wear shorts and ugly Hawaiian shirts 340+ days a year too. I got that about the guy within 5 minutes of our several hour long conversation last night. It pretty much came down to this by my assessment.

Any friend of Jack Williams' is a friend of mine...nuff said??

So, thanks Jacko....

We'll get you straightened around over on The Pit BP...you'll be a very welcome addition in all forums over there...I think you'll especially like this thread...

Oh, and about that "buy more beer" part????

I refer you to my standard contract, section B, paragraph 6 of sub section 69 which states:

Dude will be provided at his constant personal disposal at all times a minimum of two cases of Becks bottles kept at a constant temperature of 42 degrees.

I was dreaming of asking BP to ship any left over beer from the big day to Kansas.

Then I found out Rod was coming. I gotta get to Oz one of these days to drink some beer with the beer drinkers.

Good thing ya got that contract Dude.

So much for dreaming.

Yup. That's something that the regular forumites have figured out, too. You couldn't ask for a better crew - Derek, Jon, Scott, BP, Beth, The Wonder Dog Lawyer, Dan McPherson, and everyone else who has a real job but somehow finds time to take care of problems, answer questions, leap buildings in a single bound and more than anything else, extend friendship.

I'm still amazed that we can fill up so much space just talking about Stingrays and Sterlings and Bongos. Who would have guessed? I bought my first Stingray in the 70s and here I am, still excited about the same damned bass. I'm glad to find that I'm not the only sick puppy - maybe that's why I come here so often.

And there's BP, been at it a long time, and guess what? The passion is THERE, never doubt it. He does things because he wants to, because he believes it will advance the instrument, because he likes to shake things up, maybe, but not because he's consulted the marketing experts, conducted polls amongst likely consumers and so on. It's about the instrument and the player and the relationship between the two.

I'm lucky to be here and know these people - and I mean all of you guys.

It's not about the money for BP to have extended this olive branch and lay a golden opportunity at my feet so generously!

Nope, I don't think so either. I knew early in the conversation that it was not ever going to be about money. The bass community is still relatively small and everyone knows everyone else or at least knows someone who was once in bed with whoever we're talking about at the time....I don't think I'm betraying any confidence by revealing that Sterling said to me, "Who is this Steve Barr? He's obviously a Bass Guy...."

Yup. And how far apart can two people so passionate about our instrument be?

Any friend of Jack Williams' is a friend of mine...nuff said??

I appreciate that. I've made some new friends here, especially Jon and Derek and Scott and Sterling, and I look forward to hoisting that first K-1 with all involved.

And Steve, of course - we're old friends but have never met in real life, and guess what? Our first meeting comes on Sterling's dime! I could never have imagined anything so weird, ever.

Hell, I'm not even drunk yet.

Anyhoo. Lemme tell you one other thing - all of you guys - I don't think it's ordinary to be on the phone with Sterling Ball and Steve Barr. I mean, one or the other is cool enough, don't think I'm unaware of that - but to be in on it was mighty mighty cool, and I thank you both.

Because I'm Mister Lunch Pail, you know?

Jack and Steve and all of you catsorino's!

Thanks for all of the kind sentiment. The deal is that we all love great basses and maybe even greater love for bassists....no f##k the bassists....we love that bass!

This was much easier than your average lead singers ego, or world peace for that matter.

What a great evening! Hare krishna I better get to the pit before the dude kicks my ass!

It is?? Cool...he didn't say anything about paying for my Dude +3 travel and hotel expenses (not to mention a bail fund escrow account).

Passion for the electric guitar. Bass or 6 string. It is what we all have, and it is kind of like what the guys I used to ride motorcycles with used to say..If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand. I think it is so great that BP and SDB got to talk things out, and I can't wait to hang with all y'all at the open house.

BTW I am a bit drunk so I may delete this in the morning when I'm not so damn warm and fuzzy :D

If you get a chance...Go see Los Lonely Boys. best show I've seen in years!

For the record, although my actual initials are SDB, I am not this Steve Dude Barr person. That will be proven at the open house when we are both in the same place at the same time.
