hey guys i just got my first ebmm yesterday and i love it... the neck... my god!
any way, as much as i love just about every thing about the guitar i like to play ultra speed so i need 9's and a low action... i've been playing for 10 years and have always teched my own gear, so i'm contemplating setting it up in the next 24 hours...
do you guys think i should jump in or give it to a pro?
and if i should do it myself any tips you guys can recommend with your experience?
eg, best way to lower strings is my main concern, theres no set screw like on a !banez... weird!

JPs come with 9s on them, so you're all ready at an advantage.

I'd say that you should jump in balls deep and just give'r. As long as you're only working on a setup and such, then why not do it yourself? You'll get to know the ins and outs of the guitar, which is probably a good thing. Also, after one or two tries with it, you won't need a pro again! If you think you're screwing up really badly, then you always do have the techs to rely on, but where's the fun in not trying?

Just remember, the toilets flush backwards down under.

Congrats! I'm assuming you bonded with one of them!

I would try setting the intonation and neck relief yourself. However, if you are going to switch string gauges, you might want to take it to a pro just to make sure that the nut and trem set up are OK.

i changed the gauge on my BFR recently from 9,s to 10,s and it was perfect.maybe one or two adjustments to the trussrod and make sure the bridge is completely flat and level with the body of the guitar.you might have to tighten the trem claws at the back of the guitar to level the bridge.

thanks for the input guys, i spoke to the only other dude i have ever let set up one of my guitars... he has 20+ years of experience more than me, he said he'll do it while i watch and we'll take some notes, i think he just really wants to experience the trem... but if he dings, scratches... anything...

:mad:he dies...

for the record: JP's shipped with 9's for a couple months b/c JP had started to use 9's... JP's back to 10's and so are the guutars.

So if you bought a guitar that was produced during that window of time then yours came w/ 9's. but odds are it came with 10's

That's sweet, I wont have to worry about switching out and setting up. Dumb question, but 10's on the lefty models too right?

sorry for the highjack shred.
