Yes, I'm the guy who's evidently *obsessed* over the (now missing) BFR Badge - at least obsessed enough to have started a poll/thread about it here: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/57216-bring-back-ball-family-reserve-badge.html

I was kinda surprised to see the poll has been steady at 55% "for" vs. 45% "against" for quite a while - with quite a few people saying how much they HATED the badge (oh, the sacrilege! )

Since BP hasn't jumped up and seen the errors of his ways (and paid penance by retrofitting a badge into mine :) ), the depths of my despair has reached the point where I'd be interested in SWAPPING NECKS with somebody who happens to have one that matches (other than the badge).

Here's my NGD thread, with pics from Pete DuBaldo before he shipped it out: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/57005-ngd-john-petrucci-6-ball-family-reserve-solar-burst.html The headstock is "plain brown", has the JP "shield" and nice dark rosewood, but just looks so plain at the 12th fret it's tough to consider going on living... :(

So, to anyone out there disillusioned with their gaudy/pretentious neck - how about a swap? Mine is, literally, BRAND NEW, and I'll cover shipping both ways (have a UPS account, so this would be easy).

Any takers? Or is there a "return to manufacturer for upgrade" option to get this done that I don't know about? :p

I like the badges, but that JP6 you've got looks PERFECT just the way it is...

of course, that's just my opinion.... it's your (GORGEOUS) guitar...

Seems like to me (just my opinion), your getting hung up on a badge. I dont there will be an increase over time on the badge vs non badge items and it def does not affect the performance. In my experience, some guitars just have that perfectly mated neck. Maybe yours has that. Ask yourself....

Does my EBMM play better than anything Ive owned? Does it intonate just the way I like it? Is the action and setup something I never struggle with? Is the tone something I have never heard on anything else I have played?

Now ask your self if you can live with sacrificing one or more of these because of a badge. Swapping a neck out can sometimes give more than what you had but more times than not may affect it the other way. I dont think this has anything to do with quality control or build construction but more with the piece of wood itself.

Did you get "The" piece of wood that makes yours so much better? To me and again its just my opinion.....I think a swap for a badge alone maybe a risky choice.....

Hope I didnt come off too negative....

Correct me if I'm wrong (please) but isn't the only guitar that headstock color will match another solar burst? I don't think I've ever seen a BFR logo'd JP6 neck with a non-matching headstock so you'll both end up with a guitar that doesn't match the neck. (Except of course for a roasted maple BFR JP6 neck, and that has an ebony board, and I doubt anybody will give that up in a hurry for a neck that doesn't match).

Good luck! It'll be interesting to see if (and how) this works out!

There shouldn't be any Solar Burst necks with a BFR badge. Starting at NAMM 2013 we discontinued the badge for all orders going forward. NAMM 2013 is also when we introduced Solar Burst.

Thanks for the info - I was assuming the correct neck, but with badge, was manufactured in some quantity - and I only had to connect with someone who had one and was interested in swapping. Now I see I really am on a unicorn hunt!

Well, guess the only option is to send it back to you to have one put in, huh? What's your address again?! :)
