Just starting to use one

When I first started slapping away on a maple Stingray 4 live it really needed a bit of compression and I didn't have any. When we recorded we did use a rack compressor although in my opinion on one track it was over-compressed and there's a few pops there which I don't like.

I've recently bought an Ashdown dual-band compressor pedal and have started playing with it. It's very effective on my fretless, makes a nice sound, but haven't tried it on the Stingray live yet. I think the trick is to use it lightly - I have noticed at home that overdoing it kills the sound very quickly and your Ball loses all it's balls very quickly :)

As always, moderation in all things

Cheers

I really like the compressor on my Eden Navigator. Its subtle but Ileave it on all the time.

I also have an Aphex Punch Factory pedal on my board which is used primarily to tame the volume spike from my EHX Mini Q Tron. The Punch Factory is very subtle but does add sparkle to harmonics and finger taps.

I'm using a dbx 166xl in the effects loop of an Genz-Benz 750. Generally, it's effective and tranparent... I've struggled with a ground loop that results in a slight, but noticible, noise in my studio. GB customer service has been extremely helpful in that regard and the problem has been significantly reduced though still not completely eliminated. I've never had an issue under live conditions. Since it is stereo or dual-mono, it's useful for other applications.

I am currently using a DBX 160A in my rack and love it. I use an overeasy compression style with a gradual attack to just smooth out the rough spots. If you don't compress too much, it really adds to your overall sound in my opinion.

I use a Barber Tone Press and it is beautiful, especially with my Sterling. It allows for a mix of wet and dry, so I add just a touch of comp for a subtle change. Check one out if you get a chance.

+1. I have the dumbed down, one nob eden compressor on my TimeTraveler 1x12 combo and it's great and on all the time, and subtle.

I recently bought a Demeter Compulator, and I think it's pretty much the same as the Eden Compressor, so it's great for me! Since I rapidly become retarded if I have more than two/three nobs to tweek.

It's a boring pedal, but does exactly what I want it too.
