Anyone do any interesting pickup changes in their standard (non BFR) JP models (other than swapping the original bridge hum with a D-Sonic or rewiring to do the push/pull thang that's standard on the BFRs)). What did you do, why and what was the resulting tonal changes? Every so ofen I get the urge for something a little more "vintage" sounding if you will like a classic snappy PAF sound but I'm so in tune with the feel of my JPs that I don't bond with other guitars easily.

I've tried PAF Pros in there. Didn't quite like it. Was a bit muddy. Seems those pups don't go well with basswood, I think. (But PG's guitar is fine?) I've also tried PAF Joe/FRED in there. I think that's as vintage as it can get with that basswood body. Loved them totally. But I wanted to go back to a heavy heavy tone. So I stuck with the stock neck pup, and the Steve's Special.

But having said that, I've dumped some killer PAF clones into my 20th, and those ROCK!!!!!!

I had an original bridge in my JP when I had it.

I changed the pickup out for a DiMarzio Evolution. That being my favorite pickup for the bridge... it was very NICE.... gave the guitar what I felt it was missing. More harmonic overtones and little more of the push I was looking for in the Distorted tone.... the middle position also sounded closer to piezo when clean too. The middle also sounded like a classic single distortion tone when distorted too... it was amazing!

One day, when I get my hands on some more JP6es, I want to try an Evo in the neck. Maybe a Breed in another one.
