The last several times I've gone to a guitar store, I've noticed that, if I try a new bass, I kinda get freaked out. My basses are just that, MY basses, so full of myself and little changes and feels specific to my instruments. In fact, I played a recent SR5 at a GC a while back, when I was looking for a new bass... I figured it would be just like picking up MY SR5, but after playing it for a few, I almost never wanted to play another EB bass, cuz it just felt weird... very foreign. Maybe I'm just an oddball... anyone else have a similar experience?

See, what you do is you get yourself about eight or nine Music Man basses so that you get used to each one feeling a little different.....

Hey, it works for me.

a few times ive felt stange playing another sterling but other times ive been blown away. it goes both ways in my experience.

i think for me its the difference inan action & strings.

truth is most of my MMs were purchased sight unseen over the web. ive never had to take more than 10 minutes to make em "my own"

Thinking back on it, I think the fingerboard edges were a little sharp, or at least not as broken in. That, and after playing more outdoor shows than I care to remember, the neck on my SR5 is filled with my sweat and funk, as opposed to the plain jane neck at GC.

Also, I played a 20th SR5 at Elderly over the summer, and that felt great. Since I didn't have my SR5 to compare it to, I can't say I was blown away, even though I wanted to be. For some reason, the highlight of my trip there was a cheapo Sq*ire 5'r that seemed to pull some new stuff out of me... I'm so ashamed! lol
