There's a very good reason for that--you can't.

Your only real hope is eBay, or the used market. Period. You might find someone here looking for a rosewood fretboard who has a maple neck, too, if you are really lucky.

EB/MM won't sell necks by themselves (nor should they), and they won't trade a rosewood fretboard for a maple fretboard.

So, 4 string? 5 string?

Birmingham, UK or Alabama?

"The tone of maple neck" myth is way overrated.

If you're really in for a snappy tone, then go Status Graphite, by all means!

ebay.

Buy a stingray with a maple neck, swap the necks and sell the newly rosewooded ray.

Price? Essentially free.

Only really works with plain headstocks.

But, it is well known on the forum that maple has more attackiness!

Honestly, when I searched around the forum regarding the influence of neck wood on tone, I found that most players choose maple or rosewood for looks, and only a small fraction could definitely tell a difference. Also, it's always the whole package, the body and the neck, so in order to compare you'd really need to swap several necks on several instruments. Which obviosuly no-one ever did (except for the MM engineers).

Therefore, and because I really can tell from experience, if you're in for serious snappiness on a StingRay, then go for a graphite neck. Also, they can be bought new without the trouble of trying to find a used bass just to swap necks.

If you're considering maple just to get a bit more "attackiness"... the StingRay has a nice EQ on board, which will give you all the "attackiness" you're looking for and then some.

OTOH, maybe just get another 'Ray with a maple neck...

Oli, I was just joshing you. The "attackiness" comment was in relation to one of those very threads you mentioned that you found via search. Personally, I don't hear much difference between maple and rosewood boards. I can detect some difference with ebony, and graphite has it's own unique feel, but they're all pretty much in the same ballpark to my ears.

Ah. Sorry. Since English is not my native language, some of the humorous details are sometimes lost on me...

I can't hear the difference, or at least not a difference a little eq tweak wouldn't change, I just love the look of maple.... yeah stupid reason to swap, but I cut my hair to look a certain way also so why can't I change my neck to suit my needs ;)
