I need a beater bass (5 string) for travel and my nephew to learn on.
Are these Chicom basses any good for the $$$?
My main concern is PU quality and neck, fret feel. Is it an SR5 clone as far as feel?
Should the strings be replaced from the get go. Will the bridge/saddle need major
adjustments? Chime in peoples!

I'm not sure about the 5-string OLP's, but I've owned a couple of the 4's, and was actually quite impressed with the quality.

They are definitely good starter (or even backup) basses; much better quality than most of the MIM Fenders being squirted out nowadays. The feel is pretty damned good, too!

Only heard good things...

Try a search for 'OLP' and you'll come across some more specific detail. :)

Thanks for the responses. I am interested the Tony Levin model
in Natural, Tort PG with maple board. Looks cool for sure.
I know its not going to sing like my Sterling.
Music 123 is asking $349 free shipping. Very tempting :p

Expand your search to 'Tony Levin OLP' - there was a recent thread that went into lots of detailed commentary. :)
