Roger Waters' Inflatable Pig Floats Into Coachella Night Sky, Reward Offered
During the intermission of Roger Waters' set at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California on Sunday night (April 27th), a giant inflatable pig, his most famous stage prop, broke from its moorings and floated away into the night sky. Festival organizers are now offering a reward, of $10,000 plus four lifetime tickets to the Coachella Festival, for the safe return of the pig.
Waters has let loose many inflatable pigs during his outdoor concerts over the past few years, it should be noted, which has led to some suspicion that the reward is a publicity stunt.
Anyone with a lead on the pig's whereabouts can email [email protected].
Waters and Pink Floyd first used an inflatable pig for the album cover of the band's 1977 album Animals. And on the day of the photo shoot, the original pig also broke free of its moorings, and floated away over London. (It eventually landed in a field and was recovered.) An inflatable pig was used on the tour for the Animals album, and a pig painted black was used during the legendary Wall shows in 1980 and 1981.
Waters and Pink Floyd have both used inflatable pigs in live shows since then, and various pigs have floated away or been damaged by audiences over the years.
