I used my Bongo all the time when I played at church. The praise team loved the sound. But there weren't too keen about looks. When I changed the pickguard, they'd say, "Is that a new bass?" :p

Yep, used my HH Bongo5 all the time in Church and on the road(and in studio) for Brian Doerksen(briandoerksen.com)

always get great comments on the tone and the look of it. And now that I've been using my HH SR5 Dargie it's more of the same, "great tone" "wow, that thing looks great!"

have fun!!

I would imagine that the church band and congregation would be more forgiving about the Bongo's unconventional appearance than say, a blues or jazz crowd!

Oooo. I should play my Bongo (when it gets here) in a jazz setting. :D
I like playing in blues bands, so maybe that'll happen too. :)

Yep.. I've played my DD Bongo 5HH in church several times now... it gets great reviews. Soundguy says the Bongo is at least tied for his favorite bass I play, He says it's easy for him to get it "right" in the mix.

Most comment on the looks.. they wouldn't know the difference in tone between different basses.. the musicians all like it though.. sits great in the mix.. doesn't get buried.... yep.. it's good allright!~

I'm sure it will work out fine this week. I was just wondering what kind of reaction you guys had with your Bongos in Church.

I have played a number of differnet Basses for them before and the reaction has been pretty much the same. "That one sounds great, you gonna keep it?"

I've saved pretty much about a year to get this Bass and I'm sure it's a keeper.....

I appreciate all the comments and input............:)

I for the record have never played my Bongo in church. I swear God has heard me play it though. I did stick up for it when it was only discounted for looks. Once that happened it was the only bass that was accepted after it was heard.

They do sound that good.

my testimony before God and man on the Bongo.

I'll be running my Bongo through an SWR Workingman's 15 160 watts with the option of going DI to the sound board 800 watts.

I'm going to show up at Church about an hour early and do some sound checks with our drummer and find out whats works and sounds best. He is such a great drummer and a great guy too. He always supports my Bass changes..........:D

OMB - You sound exactly like me, always playing in church! :)

StingRays sound good in church!

You're right. Stingrays sound great in church. I play at a 7,500 member church. We have an SVT810 and a SVT4Pro head with a preamp out going direct into the house and monitor mix. We have wedge monitors for the backline and the frontline have in-ears. I have received multiple comments from people saying how the bass (Stingray) really cut thourgh the house mix. Our other bass player has a Warwick Corvette 5 string and when I hear him play all I can hear is loud boominess and fret noise but no tonal definition. Stingrays rock in church!

I'd go with a moderate stage level with the amp and send a line to the FOH from the DI out on the head or just a basic DI, always good to leave the soundman with control of the levels... doesn't always work out the best that way but it's a lot less head ache than him complaining that you're stage level is too loud and constantly hounding you to turn down.
