Thinking about wireless. Anyone use/used a Samson Airline Wireless? Do you need the specific model for bass or is the guitar unit the same thing? Do they degrade the sound at all compared to a good cable? What is the actual approx. range?
Thanks!

yeh i use one every gig. though other equipment always messes up i still get the jist of it....

i would get the specific bass modle, its no more money, and it def has more low then the guitar verson.

in my opinion, my sound sounds better with the wireless, in close proximity to the reciever of course.

it has an alright range, defenitly more then stage length... i played an out door show and walked maybe, 200 feet when it started getting fuzzy, but this was after delays and what not. I"m not sure how there could be a delay because radio sig. traval at the speed of light..so maybe it wasnt delayd, but maybe the sound took time to get to me.

the only bad thing i can think about it is, with music man basses, the imput jack is on the side of the bass, so if u jump around or what not, the transmiter will pop out... i have to tape mine down... but its much lighter then a body pack, u dont even notice it

I've used a Samson Airline (the standard "guitar" version) for 3 years. Works a treat, no dropouts, has been 100% reliable for me. Great battery life. Go for the rack mount receiveer rather than the plastic "pedal" size receiver.

talking about wireless ...

do you lose some output or power if you hook on a wireless rather than wired?

what's the cheapest and good wireless rack version you can think of?

if my mates are on wireless too (drum, guitar, keyboard), would using another wireless for my bass interfere the signal?

Dual diversity UHF is the minimum you should consider. Samson or AKG both make comparatively inexpensive units in this category. Steer clear of Nady. If you win lotto, Sennheiser or Shure are the best options.

I had a Samson Airline & it kept cutting out. Probably my luck of getting a bad one but that was the second Samson in my bass playing life to give me trouble. I decided on a Sennheiser---haven't had a problem since. It sounds no different than if it were corded.

Is it true that using a wireless TX/RX alters your tone, etc?

In the wireless communication world, "TX" stands for transmitter, and "RX" stands for receiver. Or something close - It's been awhile...

ohhh... then

it doesnt alter your tone... it just compresses it somewhat so it can be sent in a singal threw the air... i think sennheiser has some thing where it doesnt use some circut so it makes it less compressed or something, making it sound as good as a cable.
