Europe beat the US in the Ryder Cup for the 3rd time in a row.

I was trying to wind up my friends across the water.

With Woods at the moment he's making good players look bad cause he's so far ahead of them.

Garcia and Casey are the only two Europeans close to the top US guys in singles in my humble opinion.

that wasnt a team game...who won the masters this year last year the year before british open? Pga Us Open...Ill trade those weeks for the euro male bonding weekend

I also wonder how good they all would be if not for the competition attending USA colleges.....

They make most of their mooney here most have us girlfriends/wifes here and were educated here but they love to bash us. Paul Casey is afraid to show up over here.
 
Are you telling me that Tiger Woods would be playing at the Grove in Watford, England on a cold, windy, rainy October day if it werent for the rather large cash pot (that I think that AMEX provided) he just won. All the players go where the money is and most of the time that is the US. Just a fact of life.

You have the best individual golfers in the world - the rankings prove that.

Seriously though what's your take on why they cant seem to get it together in team matchplay?

On the face of it we really shouldnt be in with a shout - I mean Montgomerie - no majors to his name.....

What on earth happened to Phil "1/2 point" Mickleson at the K Club. He was one of the guys I would have bet on having a 3 point + weekend.

I know too much about the tour and will tell you in Dallas....I have over twenty pals that play on the USA tour

What I can say is that Europe should have beat us bad this time the last time at Oakland Hills newar Detroikt was an embarrasment Look at the us team Tiget, Phil ( who has been cold sine he gagged in the US Open) David Toms who has heart problems Furyk tuf as nails Di Marco never won a thing and the media keeps promoting him.

Vaughn Taylor doesnt strike fear in any players heart. Out selection process gives points to victories and he won the lowly Reno-Tahoe Open back to back and that alone got him on the team...Brett Wetterich? JJ Henry? Journeymen

I can promise you one thing that we will change our selection process to make sure the best 12 show up.

The posiive side is that the Ryder Cup returned to a civil and admirable sporting contest without the media call ing the war by the shore and Ian Poulter popping off. Both teams conducted themselves apove reproach.

Amen to that. The respect shown to (and amazing play from) Darren Clark epitomised the whole spirit this years competition was played in - long may it continue.

Tiger mystifies me when it comes to Ryder Cup. This guy won 3 straight U.S. Amateur championships in dramatic fashion in the clutch. Where is that guy when it comes to Ryder Cup?

Don't get me wrong. I don't mean to bash Tiger, but I'm surprised that he hasn't really performed spectacularly in Ryder Cup play.
 
The Americans don't care as much about the Ryder Cup, that's it in a nutshell. I don't believe the Americans to be better golfers, however. We play in better weather and on easier courses. I've played everywhere and American golf is a bit easier. The greens are designed for higher shots (Back-to-front angle and softer) and generally are in better condition.
The PGA is a joke, they are soooo pampered, play EASY courses (yeah, I said that) and more importantly, travel easier (private jets, etc). Of all the courses I've played the easiest have been PGA tour stops.
Give these pros deep grass bunkers (like the Scottish, etc links) instead of the simple sand bunkers and they'll be 1-2 shots worse a round.

Golf is a great game......a great pastime and an even greater charector builder. The mental side of the game is extremly addicting. Some days you win...some days you lose...but you know one thing....your always challenged!

Surreal keep in mind that the American courses play much easier when you or I are out there....if you can get on a course directly after a tour stop it might meet the tougher standards your looking for. If your ever in the Central Valley, California, look up Diablo Grande and more specifically the Legends Course. Great challenging long course with TOUGH greens. It was co-desinged by Jack Nicklaus and Gene Sarazen.

Yep, I've played Medinah and Hazeltine the next day after a major (Hazeltine in 2002 and Medinah in 1999). I've also played the TPC in Blaine and Bunker Hills after a senior event. My worst round was a 73 from the tips at Hazeltine.
If you are a good player you'll be in most fairways and these babies are pristine. The greens are fast and true (easier to read and get a true roll). The bunkers are laughable, especially greenside.
The advantage is the condition. The length is meaningless because of the 50 yards of extra roll you get on good fairways. I played Troy Burne (Wisconsin) on Monday (Nationwide tour played there last year). I had at least 10 drives over 310, where usually I am 280-ish off the tee.
I think some city courses are tougher. The greens are inconsistent, the fairways have some tough lies and even the tee boxes are uneven. It's not too often you get a deadpan lie at a top course...:)

I've played the Gut Kaden, Le Golf National and the Muchen (BMW course) outside of the UK. Plus other good courses that are no longer tour stops. They were more difficult, the weather wears on them over the year so they are tougher to maintain.
When you end up in a fairway bunker on a typical European course, you are usually in trouble.
Not too mention the Scottish, Irish beasts...oh my God...I've wanted to quit in the middle of a round once in my life...Carnoustie...F**k that monster. I lost 5 balls and I saw exactly where they landed...still couldn't find them. I shot a 91 and I was a +1 player at the time.
I'd have to say the best course is St Andrews. You THINK it's easy when you see it...nope. The bunker locations fit certain winds and the greens are in tough shape. You stripe it down the middle and...sideways bounce..in the weeds or IMPOSSIBLE bunker. You have to play certain yardages of the tee.
Perfect design...
